With the recent ousting of gamers that have violated the terms of agreement on Xbox LIVE there has been a bit of discussion if Microsoft went too far by publicly making gamers feel stupid or they were justified in their actions.
From my perspective I think cheaters should be thrown under the bus with little to no pity. Although gamerscores don’t really mean anything except to show off the fact that gamers have sat thru different aspects of the game to see that little green bubble pop up on the screen, it still isn’t right for people to cheat the system.
Rules are made for a reason, follow them or be ridiculed by your fellow gamer and Microsoft. Many don’t care since gamerscore really does not equal anything, but there are some that are saying that MS was too lenient with the whole thing and they should be banned or even blacklist their systems as inoperable.
What are your thoughts?

I think they’re making to much of it, I on occasion will do the seriously achievement glitch for someone because 10,000 kills takes a really long time on gears and now it glitches so it usually takes 30,000. So a lot of people don’t have the time for it, and with the achievement taking 3 times longer for people to get it, and the developers refusing to patch it, i’m cleaning up after them. I ought to be getting MS points!
The cheaters are getting what they deserve.
Cheaters are getting what they deserve. Everyone should follow the same rule of face consequences. Bottom line is, without penalty the cheaters are undermining the achievement system.
If you do NOT care about achievement then this has no bearing on you in the first place!
The achievement system is undermining the achievement system. Come on two hours on Scene It? and you’ll 300 achievement points no question. you get achievmenets for bad things like losing on easy in GHII. Then you’ll have to work your butt off for something that’ll give you 5 points. That is just lame there is no standard for what you should give out points for, therefore the overall scores for people have no real credability, plus it could just mean you owned the system longer. Secondly it should be understood that these people are not cheating on online play, it is only about gamerscores and using other peoples game saves. I kind of think MS is getting what they deserve on this if they weren’t so anal about people sharing game saves, they could have designed a system where you can import them and then have their achievement points blocked. Plus how is insulting paying cusomers good business? Escpecially right before GTAIII comes out. Smart move MS!
Without something this harsh I don’t think anything would have changed. Major Nelson came out a few months back and warned against account recovering and second profile glitching, but nothing significant changed and people continued to glitch for those elusive achievements. This time around it seems like more and more people are aware and can see the actual punishments and thus should result in less glitching. I know a few people are afraid they will get reset to zero for second profile glitching the ’seriously’ achievement. I cant wait till the dust settles and we get to see the people with legit 100K gamerscores.
Microsoft was so anal about gamesaves cause they were used to hack the original xbox along with font packs. As for the punishment i find it pretty amusing and am indifferent really. Acheivements for me are just a way to get more gameplay out of a game and some games do a better job of that than others (Army of TWO has a great acheivement system for extended gameplay with most acheivemts being accomplished by just playing the game a bit more than i normally would of) and nothing more.
