PS3 Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 Online Problems

R6 Vegas 2 Screen

It seems like we have another case of a third party developer not making things work right on the PS3. This time, Ubisoft dropped the ball with Rainbox Six: Vegas 2.

According to reports all over the intarwebs, Ubisoft’s new first person shooter has major online problems with the PS3. Users are either not able to connect at all, or they get so much lag the games are unplayable.

With most of Ubisoft’s development team off for the Easter holiday, gamers are going to have to wait a while to get this fixed. Whether it’s a server issue or the game needs to be patched, Ubisoft better get on this one quick to avoid a firestorm. Gamers aren’t the friendliest people when something isn’t perfect.

    I like the not so subtle suggestion that this is the developers fault. Perhaps it has more to do with the poor state of the PSN in comparison to Xbox Live and the difficulty in getting complicated systems like this up and running. You know, the sort of burden that Microsoft all but removes from developers?

    @Intangilbe 360: Most other developers have no trouble with getting PS3 online games to work with no trouble. Look at CoD4 which has 12 players online with zero lag every game. It’s not that difficult, as has been stated by many developers as well. The challenges they have are integrating the SPU’s of the Cell processor, not in getting things to work on the PSN.

    If you don’t mind supplying the quotes from developers who have said it is easy to develop online for the PS3 from third party developers I would appreciate it.

    I never asserted that it was impossible to get online working or working well on the PS3 simply that it was far from easy (in general) and much more difficult on PSN than for the Xbox 360.

    Anyway, other than the slightly over-protective stance the site seems to take on posting anything that could possibly be construed as saying one console is better than the other…I like loot-ninja, I’m just a little (ha!) argumentative. :)

    @toss:

    As articulately and intelligently as your comment addresses the issue I am sure you will be surprised to read that I still disagree. Next time, I suggest backing up your arguments and just dropping the ad hominem altogether.
