February NPD Numbers

Wii Love Money

Just take a wild guess who came out on top again this month for hardware sales? Seriously, both the Wii and DS print money. I wonder if they’ll do that in my living room…

Microsoft prepped everyone by saying there’s still a shortage of Xbox 360’s. I don’t know how much that’s really true, as I haven’t heard any reports of people not being able to find them on store shelves. Either way, they got out-sold by the PS3 for the second month in a row.

The biggest note is that that overall industry sales ballooned 34% to $1.33 billion, with software accounting for $668.7 million. That’s a good deal of scratch. And who’s still buying all these PS2’s? Anyway, check out the numbers for yourself.

  • DS: 587.6K (up) 336.6K (134%)
  • Wii: 432K (up) 158K (58%)
  • PS2: 351.8K (up) 87.8K (33%)
  • PS3: 280.8K (up) 11.8K (4%)
  • Xbox 360: 254.6K (up) 24.6K (11%)
  • PSP: 243.1K (up) 13.1K (6%)

Software numbers for Feburary:

  1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Xbox 360) – 296.2K
  2. Devil May Cry 4 (Xbox 360) – 295.2K
  3. Wii Play w/remote (Wii) – 289.7K
  4. Devil May Cry 4 (PS3) – 233.5K
  5. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Wii) – 222.9K
  6. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (DS) – 205.6K
  7. Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360) – 203.6K
  8. Turok (Xbox 360) – 197.7K
  9. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (PS2) – 183.8K
  10. Rock Band (Xbox 360) – 161.8K

    360 shortage?! Maybe there’s a shortage of working 360’s.
Every store I go into has plenty of them on the shelves. Maybe Microsoft has the 360 confused with the Wii.

Yeah, I walked into the gaming section of Bestbuy, Walmart, Target, GameCrazy and alot of other stores this month, I saw a 360 everytime. I think bestbuy even made a little castle out of them.

The 360 is still king of software sales. Shit, I alone own 41 Xbox 360 games versus 11 Wii games.

I am about even on PS3 and 360 games. I only have a handful of games for Wii.

I have just about the same number of games for PS3 and 360 as well. Wii, that just lags way behind. Not that many games you need to get for the Wii

I’m hoping more third party games will start making an appearance on the Wii, as well as more original titles that utilize what is essentially a gimmick controller.

I do think we’ll see more games coming to the Wii. The question is, will you choose the Wii version if a PS3/360 version is also available? Generally speaking, my choice would be no. Unless there’s a compelling reason to get the game on the Wii

The wii does have a lot of 3rd party support. The games just suck balls.

That’s why I want to see some original titles. Ports are no good because given the option I will take a PS3 or 360 port over a Wii port.

I’m not talking about ports. I’m talking about Wii only releases.
