Alienware M15x Has Major Problems

Ruh Roh Raggy. Alienware has some cleaning up to do. Apparently, their new M15x monster gaming laptop is killing itself.

The gaming laptop is having some major overheating problems and the cases are cracking simply from opening and closing the lid. Not good at all. A few users over at Notebook Review have done some extensive testing on their own and found both the M15x and it’s predecessor, the M550, having heat issues, but the M15x seems to take the top spot with both overheating and the case cracking.

As the biggest manufacturer of gaming notebooks, you would expect Alienware to get these issues right. They did indicate they did not see these issues in testing, but many users are still having issues. Hopefully they’ll get on the ball and get the heat and cracking issues worked out.

    They started sucking even before Dell bought them. Alienware used to be good back in the old days but they let their fame amongst the gaming community go to their head. They suck now.

    An NBR Lead Moderator has contacted AW and informed NBR members that AW is taking the problem seriously. They have already been able to replicate the problem on a few units and a lot of engineers are working on a solution.

    Mac’s are conversation pieces at the local starbucks, when you wanna break the ice with the cute girl in the corner using a pink MBP.

    Come on seriously you shouldn’t even compare a MAc to a high end gaming laptop, although they cost just as much..

    i am typing this on an m15x and after the worst drop ever hitting a wall then hitting the ground while it was on i stunned it still works . all in all tho not that much damage my right heat grill in the back is dented and theirs some cracks at the edge and in front of the right speaker any way there a lot studier then you think thou alienware support sucks

    this alienware laptop is the biggest piece of s*** ever. got it within the first few days the build quality was so disgusting and the speakers sounded worse than that of a gameboy pocket!!! i had to send it in for repair to fix the hinges becuase it was squeaking more than a creaking staircase in a haunted house! it was wobbly cheap thin plastic crappy materials chinese made crap and waited about a week and a half for it back. it came back to me only it was WORSE than before!!! the screen was falling off after the alienware techs supposedly repaired it wooooowww what a piece. immediatly I returned it back to the comany and took a hit on the restock but was worth it. now I have the hp hdx 16 waaayyyy better 102039493893x better no doubt…alienware sucks.

    I dont know what the problem with alienware is but they just cannot get it right.

    First they sent me a computer that would not turn on. After I sent it back they sent me a computer where the keyboard lights would not work. So I had to send it back yet again. A few months later, the fan on my video card crapped out, so I had to replace that. Now, my card the (nVidia 8800m gtx) is over heating, so I have to send it back again. Oh and i also have a crack in the side of it. Not to mention, their support sucks too! I have been on hold for over an hour trying to talk to someone from support…..

    I haven;t even owned this piece of shit for a year yet.

    DO NO WASTE YOUR MONEY ON AN ALIENWARE PRODUCT!

    Well, unfortunately you can add me to the unhappy Alienware Customer list. I have had my m15x for just over a year and now my hinge has broken. I had no idea how many people had the same problem until I looked online. This is my 3rd Alienware Laptap, and I was happy until now. Now I dont really want it repaired but rather refunded as I dont want a machine that costs a fortune and will but the sounds of it break again. I also have the keyboard lag and my CD/DVD does not open most of the time.

    I contacted Alienware Support about a week ago, they asked for low res pics of the fault. Since sending them the same day, I have heard nothing. I have sent an email everyday since then and still nothing. What happened to the great service that Alienware was meant to have when I bought the machine?

    I was planning on buying an Alienware Desktop system next, but with this happening, I am thinking NOT! I really hope that Alienware pull their finger out and get some service going, this is obviously a design flaw with the m15x and thats their fault not ours. Most people I know who buy alienware are passionate about their machines and word of mouth spreads quick, I hope they realise how bad this could be for the company if they do not assist the people that buy Alienware. I will wait and see and let you know what happens.

    Now I have been told that I need to send my machine in for a new case, this is going to take 5 weeks!! I am in Italy by the way. And from what I have read from other people there is an excellent chance that the same problem will happen again, probably when my warranty has run out. Oh how I wish I have never bought this m15x!!

    I am busy writing them a letter that I will email to the big guns if I can get their emails. I am so tired of sending 5 emails to find out whats going on and getting 1 short reply every 5 days, and always from a different person. My problem is that I travel all the time and do not have a base country (I work on a yacht) so how would I work sending it away and 5 weeks later getting it back? And what happens in another year when the same thing happens to my machine, because in 3 months time I will be going to South Africa. Its these reasons I bought Alienware in the 1st place. And too think I was such a huge fan and avid supporter for Alienware, I cant believe that this is the route the company is choosing to follow.

    Does anyone know if the case / hinge problem has even been sorted out yet? And does the skullcap design have the same weak hinge as the Ripley?

    On the Alienware support forums, I’ve seen people with both the Ripley and Skullcap designs reporting problems with the screws falling out and the screen hinge breaking, complete with photo evidence. :( I’ve got a Ripley with the same exact issue and it’s driving me crazy.

    My advise, get the m17x instead. Stunning machine, much better build quality, no squeaks.

  18. The first one : overheating problems, case breaking, dead GPU
    Alienware changed Screen+GPU+CPU

    The second one : dead HDD, Screen (screws falling out, hinge and case breaking), Smart-Bay (exterior plastic case breaking), Keyboard (distorted, unstuck keys)
    Alienware changed HDD. I have to send back the PC to fix the rest of it.

    I can tell now : m15x from Alienware is a very bad quality product.
