Haven’t Scene It? Buzz it!

Release Date: March 11th, 2008 Developer: Relentless Software MSRP: $29.99

It’s good to see that trivia games still thriving on the PS2 - well, as much as anything can thrive on the PS2 these days. The first Buzz! game debuted on Oct. 21st, 2005 with Buzz! The Music Quiz. Several other titles such as Buzz! The BIG Quiz and Buzz! The Sport Quiz were soon to follow. Now, a year later, Buzz! comes to us with The HollyWood Quiz - a collection of movie trivia! (controllers not included). Let’s dig deeper shall we? Yes we shall!

Presentation & Graphics: Well, this is a PS2 game that’s for damn sure. But really, does it matter with a quiz game? No it doesn’t. It’s not as if there is any ugliness detracting from the experience. It’s about par for the course for a game released on an older, less played system. Being able to screw around a bit with the look of your avatar is a nice touch. 7.5 of 10

Sound & Music: Everything here sounds surprisingly goos sans two things - the music can become grating after an hour or so, and the announcer must be put down like a lame horse almost immediately. He sounds like a British man who goes door to door selling used sex toys - and he’s the one who used them.

Anyways.

Other than those off putting issues, the sound is quite good, the developers bothered to place interesting interaction between players who choose the same answers and the like - well done. Your assistant (whose breasts don’t exist in nature) will explain the controls to you in details - this would get annoying if you didn’t have the option to stifle her (man does she get pissed). Little touches like these show that the developers still give a shit about putting out a game of some quality on the old PS2. 8 of 10

Gameplay: Well, press the buttons in a way that will have you win. Knowing something about movies helps. If the gameplay was flawed the developers would have sustained head injuries in their childhood. The questions are almost insultingly easy on the ‘Standard’ levels - play ‘Film Fanatic’ for true trivia fun!

As it stands the controls and the interaction with the game works perfectly. 8 of 10

Lasting Appeal: If you are using a memory card for your PS2 (and if you aren’t - what the hell’s wrong with you?), the questions repeat less often - if you’re not, play with different people every time to look really smart in front of them. But don’t expect the fun to last too long - just long enough. 7 of 10

Final Word: Folks, this is a fun little trivia game for $30, if you haven’t upgraded your system yet, picking this up is good for a few couples nights for a few weeks - or many nights as a stripping game for one couple. Just make sure you have the controllers - very important.

Overall: 7.5 of 10

I think the game holds up very well against Scene It, other than the wired controllers. Hopefully we’ll see Buzz for the PS3 with some nice wireless pads

It’s cool to see that Sony and some developers are still supporting the PS2.

There is a bundle with the controllers or you can buy it without if you already have them from a previous Buzz game. It works well on BC with a 60gb or 80gb PS3

Why not get Scene It! for the 360? Wireless controllers FTW.

There’s over 5000 questions on Buzz, which means you’re going to have much less repeat. I’ve already seen every question in Scene It at least once on the 360

Yeah, Scene It is shorter on questions. I played it at Best Buy and saw questions repeat.
