Hello 1994, I mean current day Nintendo. In a move sure to piss off shell shooting racers everywhere, Mario Kart for the Wii will feature text-only chat. Ummm, what? According to IGN:
“You can create rooms for friends to join and even text chat while you’re waiting for other racers,” Nintendo of Europe revealed.
Right now, the hope is that Mario Kart will support a USB keyboard. Because if you have to type like you do with Opera on the Wii now, it’s going to be a cluster-f. Yeah, I went there. Even with keyboard support, how many gamers are going to pull one out just to chat, in a special room mind you, while they want to play Mario Kart? My guess is very little. I wouldn’t expect too much chatter there.

what the fuck nintendo? fuck you and your crappy online ;(
If nintendo and MS join forces, it would be perfection.
Phantasy Star Online (sega Dreamcast 1999) proved that text chat (with comic book voice bubbles no less) can and does work, and to an extent, works better than live voice chat.
Phantasy Star online isnt a racer
you cant race and write at the same time, wtf?
@ Whitey.
Exactly but Nintendo is doing a piss poor job of coming to age where Online isn’t all about Pre-fixed Text. It’s BS if they are only doing this strategically. What crap game will actually use Voice? Watch it be pokemon. lulz
Another reason why I sold my wii. My PC and PS3 provide alot more fun for me. Nintendo keeps thinking all this old crap is like, state of the art. “This is not your grandfathers mario kart, it will feature online racing for the first time ever.” …. cool… I guess. Good job Nintendo.
