News: Capcom Sued Over Dead Rising

large_diary1.jpg

Zombies in a shopping mall.

That’s the underlying cause between the lawsuit against Capcom filed by the MKR Group - representing New Line Cinema. Capcom was seeking an injunction against MKR to prevent the lawsuit from going through. But that didn’t seem to go so well for Capcom - because it ain’t happening. New Line Cinema insists that the suit is a matter of intellectual property infringement.

The complaint from MKR states: “Both works are dark comedies”. “Both works provided thoughtful social commentary on the ‘mall culture’ zeitgeist, in addition to serving up a sizable portion of sensationalistic violence”.

I can’t help but think that this whole lawsuit is a giant load of crap. It’s like if George Clayton Johnson sued Universal Pictures because ‘Inside Man’ had a bank robbery like his script for the original ‘Ocean’s Eleven’. Capcom’s original response when the suit first surfacedearlier this month was ”humans battling zombies in a shopping mall” is a “wholly unprotectible idea”. I Have to say that I agree. How many zombie movies are out there? How many happen in mall?

And how exactly does Dead Rising ‘provide thoughtful social commentary’? I mean if your feeble minded to begin with I suppose that the game could open your eyes to the social aspects of … oh wait…no it couldn’t - it’s a zombie killing game - YOU KILL ZOMBIES.

So there it is folks. Bullshit. Voila!

What about you? Does anyone out there think that New Line Cinema has a leg to stand on? Or they just wasting everyones time? Let us know.

Durka!!

People like to stretch things way to far. If this lawsuit goes thru then no one can make a zombie game ever again!

you could say that halo is the biggest rip-off ever, let me share:
first of the elites (as awesomely badass as they are) They are pretty much rip-offs of the predator are they not? Then you have the ones on jet packs which resemble space pirates from Metroid. The you have these little flood bastards which enter a host, creating a zombie like condition, resident evil anyone? You have the gravemind which is just a fucking pirana plant minus the green tube. Finally you have the super soldier idea, bad joins forces of good then a huge space battle which star wars would sue to no end about. That was a mouthfull
