When I first heard of a new installment of the Turok series, I was cautiously optimistic. The first 2 games were awesome, then the series sort of trailed into obscurity. The demo has recently been released and I gave it a good play through. Needless, to say, I was not that impressed at all. You start in this cave with a fellow NPC who keeps telling you to hurry up or he will leave you…? Yeah, thanks dick. Anyway, random dinosaurs are roaming around and leap at you. The weapons are rather basic and no one tells you that you can use your knife for an easy kill(until much later) unless you do it out of exploration. The knife kills are way too easy though; taking a Raptor down with a blade can’t be that simple.
Anyway, you exit the caves and end up fighting some soldiers in a lush jungle. The graphics here are decent, but nowhere nearing the status of eye-opening. They tell you now how to stealth kill, which you can do, until one soldier spots you, and all hell breaks loose. You then fight your way through the tide of enemies and the demo ends. Its surprisingly short for a 1.2gb download.
All in all, this seems just like another FPS trying to make a name for itself. The demo did not show much. The voice over work is sub-par and the game play is nothing to write home about. The game does not look bad, but there is and will be plenty of FPS’s on the way that will trample Turok. This will likely be destined to the “maybe rent”dimension. Not what the developers had in mine.

Or what about the gun that shoots something out and it attachs itself to thier head and explodes… man those were classics. The portal gun is the only new gun I’ve seen in awhile.
The gun that shot at your head was the Cerebel Bore which some round projectile bore itself into the temporal lobe and screws up your vision. Really cheap in multiplayer.
I loved this, it was so fun jamming my knife in to a dino’s skull, and blood galore!!!
I have to say that I was completly underwhelmed also. The aiming seemed a little dated which kinda took me off guard - it reminded me of aiming in the first two Turoks - which was great like ten years ago. Odd.
I knew something was going to be off when they veered off from the Turok Indian to Turok Indian-Marine (why place yourself in such a saturated premise?).
Who knows, maybe the final product will fare better. That would be nice.
@schwing007 you’re right about the whole marine thing, I remember back in the day turok was a loner. Now hes got an asshole, and some emo sinper with him. The aiming isn’t great, but it gives a hectic feeling for me and I love holdingg down both triggers and jerking the screen around. Nevertheless I love it, just going in for, what I call, the brain-stab makes up for it all
