Rumor: Crysis Coming to Consoles??

Crysis, in my opinion, is the best game a lot of us haven’t played. Why? The PC requirements are a little high to say the least. Last September at DigitaLife, drunk pandas and I asked one developer for Crysis point blank, “Is this ever going to get ported?” He said, “We have to see how well the game does before we even consider that.”

Turns out, it may get ported after all. At upcoming Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, that same question was asked. His response:

“In order to make Crysis’s gameplay [on console] you would have to make a derivative Crysis and optimise it for the Xbox 360 and PS3. In fact, if we do it, we’ll optimise it for each platform”, Crytek boss Cevat Yerli said at the time.

This is not a yes or no either way, but with the ultimate success that Half Life 2 had being ported, EA seems to be seriously considering it. If they do port it, you can bet the game will fly off of shelves.

  1. If they already have the CryENGINE 2 running on 360 and PS3, which is what they’re showing at GDC, there’s really no reason to not bring Crysis to consoles. The engine is there and optimized, just drop the game on top of it

I wonder what system it would look better on, and how they would compare to the PC version.

  3. I think in many respects it will look better than a normal PC version, as both have better hardware than many PCs these days. Since it takes a beast of a machine to play on PC, I’d imagine the console versions will hold their own graphically.

As far as which console version would look better, if the engine is coded and optimized properly, there would be little difference between them.

I hope it comes to the consoles, because in all seriousness, I’m not quite ready to upgrade my PC just yet.

I have been playing Crysis on a 32-bit version of windows for the past few months. Just got in the 64-bit version, had no problems with the graphics card driver or any of the other OS drivers. Ran the necessary vista updates, installed crysis, installed the hotfix for the virtual memory and I’m now actually able to play the game with almost 4 times better quality than I have yet. I don’t know what did it but I love it. My system has an nvidia geforce 8500, 4 gb ddr2 memory, amd x2 5000 processor with an experience index of 4.8. It’s amazing.

Your all really really stupid ps3 and xbox will never be up to the standard of the best pc’s out there as once a month a new bit of hardware comes out and blows everything out of the way whereas consoles come out once every 3-5 years at best so really the consoles will always be second best also on his quote he says a derivative of crysis and he will optimise it for consoles so basically hes saying that they will have to re-write the whole of crysis in order for it to be playable it wont look as good as pc but its a great game so even though pcs are the best itll still look great on the consoles.

Consoles don’t have the hardware to live up to what Crysis looks like on the PC. People that play crysis on “max settings” have computers around 3x as powerful as a 360 or PS3 (believe me or not, it’s a fact, research it yourself if you wish). So yes, Crysis on the PC is without doubt be better, just like most other games released on consoles and PCs, providing your computer has the specs.
Personally, I don’t really care if it comes out on consoles or not as I always buy my FPS games for the computer and as shown with Call of Duty 4, the computer version ends up miles better and for some reason console players ended up getting “owned”…

It is in fact going to be on the PS3.

“Consoles don’t have the hardware to live up to what Crysis looks like on the PC” Your dumb for even saying that.

Consoles are basically a PC in a box. The PS3’s RSX GPU is very much like Nvidia’s 7800 except more powerful b/c it was designed specifically to work with that hardware.

Not to even mention the cell cpu. It will look great on the PS3. Idk if the 360 has enough power to keep up with PS3 visuals.

Still if it comes to the 360 it would be an excellent addition to Xbox Live.

The Xbox 360 has 512MB of memory shared with VRAM and RAM the PS3 has 256mb of VRAM and 256mb of RAM, very simillar. But crysis all on the low setting uses over 700mb of RAM… and it’s a PC exclusive so, no it wint be comming to consoles.

consoles will never touch a PC and never play crysis

i run crysis with over 2G of ram and 512 of vram
I run it with a 9800 GTX overclocked (that pwnes any consol)
if Crysis comes out for any console it will look good unless they add in the fully destructible environment then it will look terrible

Crysis is way to graphically hungry for a console

  11. Sycorax

PS3 i think is superior to the graphics processing power over the 360. it was basically proven even before they came out. The new 200 series in NVIDIA is best. a NVIDIA 280, running a quad core, along with 4 GB of RAM would be a very nice piece of hardware that personally id love to get my hands on. however the cost of one is just too expensive. The PS3 has a single core 3.2 GHZ running at the most, 2 Teraflops. while the 360 runs three 3.2 GHZ with only 1 Teraflop.
while the 360 has a faster processor, the PS3 can handle more floating point operations per second. thus it pretty much would handle better with crysis.

  12. I wish PC gamer (theres not enough games on pc to call them gamers) Would spend 1/10th of there days. Bugging game designers to do SOMETHING about software inflation. Instead of bragging about how awesome the 2 games (there multi thousand $ investment) Look. And how infinitely more powerful there hot rods are. Which rightfully, is marginally true. But the xbox360 and the ps3 are more powerful RIGHT NOW than software designers will be able to 50-75% utilitize in a DECADE. The average person has no idea how actually powerfull the modern consoles are. Why else do you think that your industry is no longer needed.? So some designing outfit can drop a GIGANTIC MASSIVE BALL OF YARN AND KNOTS OF COMPUTER CODE, that these tards spend 6 grand on a machine that can undo it.
