Rumor: Sony to Discontinue 80gb PS3

Many people are expecting another console price drop and they may have inadvertently got it. As of right now, Best Buy no longer sells the 80gb version of the Sony PS3; it has been pulled off of their website. This may not come as a surprise, because Japan only sells one version of the console as well. Taking away the 80gb model would only leave the 40gb which does not have backwards compatibility on it. MS has since stopped updating their BC list because they did not think it was worth the effort. It seems that the only way to get a bigger HDD on your PS3 than 40gb is to buy one and install it yourself. More on this to come.

All of the 80GB PS3 bundles will be sold, but sony has planned on another bundle deal in a few months. I was worried about this myself since everyone would be left with a non b/c model. Sony will not make announcement until all 80gb models are sold or pulled off the shelves. Word from a Bestbuy employee, they plan to recieve another model in a few months, until then only carry a 40gb model.

Yes, its rather exciting that sony is considering to lower the prices a tad. They are getting the new marketing idea to not include as much to drive cost down. The 80gb PS3 unit soon to be launched without the motorstorm game bundle. Hopefully this will drop the price to $449.99, which all look good next to the xbox elite that goes for the same price! Tell me which sounds better, xbox elite 120gb hhd with hdmi port (Known for RROD “red ring of death” 30% chance within the 1 yr warranty verses the Nice Shiny PS3 80gb unit that has Blueray, bluetooth, and HDMI technology with a .02% failure rating. The PS3 sounds like a good investment to me.

PS3 dropping the bundle kits to reduce prices aren’t a bad idea. People are asking themselves which is better Spiderman movie or Motorstorm leaving that as the deciding factor, where as most people would rather save the money on the gaming unit to purchase those expensive games. (Nintendo Wii and xbox has marketed well on this for 2007) Nintendo Wii has marketed their product just like Apple Ipod, Everyone is all about chatting about its child rating. The biggest factoring scheme of limited stock per location.

I find it funny how everyone says there aren’t aint good games for the PS3. personality, I own Assassin’s creed, Call of Duty 4, Unreal tournament 3, Rainbow Six Vegas, Soldier of Fortune: Payback, The Orange box, Oblivion: the elder scrolls IV, Resistance: Fall of Man, Burnout: Paradise, Madden 08, MotorStorm, Guitar Hero 3, World Series of Poker 08, NBA 2k8. All of these games have impressive graphics and very intertaining for hours on end.

My personality opinion, both platforms xbox and Playstation are great!! However I must be guaranteed that my investment will last a long time for spending this kind of money.

Read this about xbox 360. grant that its a year older, we must ask ourselves, did them release the product too soon before the beta launch? Secondly, everyone has their eyes on Sony, like what is the next move going to be since Nintendo has outsold the industry, and how do sony plans to reduce price to Nintendo and xbox. These rumors seem to get blown out of proportion with xbox/ Wii fan base. Sure, If I had a kid, i’d rather him/ her on a Wii. However I’m not 6 years old. I’ve been in PC Gaming since 1995. Graphics is everything to me, and with a awesome game plot I could sit infront of the tv for hours. I must admit, I do admire the Wii controller system. However I don’t think its suitable for all games, mostly sports.

My conclusion is that PS3 has launched Nov. 06, the consumers expect this unit to meet their wallet budget. Its hard for a company to push a Blueray drive for under $399. PS3 is truely a media center like they projected it would. Sony stated that PS3 would have Linux loaded, but USA would tax heavily if these units where concidered computers. Sony ask for the users to install their own HDD and linux software that is a free download online. Everyone is trying to justify their purchase. All i see is Wii and xbox Fans tearing apart Sony. Now just because the 80gb units are pulled off the shelves or sold, everyone now has a bias statment against sony for only having one option, a non backwards compatible system. Rather than notice the fact Sony must make back its money for each unit so they can plan to release a more inexpensive limited b/c PS3 model.
