Assassins Creed for PC has Crysis Level Specs

Its no wonder that PC gaming has become a relatively small market these days. The smash hit, no matter what some reviewers said, Assassins Creed, is coming to PC and you better have a machine that can run it. Here are the recommended specs:

  • Supported OS: Windows XP / Vista (only)
  • Processor: Dual core processor 2.6 GHz Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ or better recommended)
  • RAM: 2 GB (3 GB recommended)
  • Video Card: 256 MB DirectX 10.0-compliant video card or DirectX 9.0-compliant card with Shader Model 3.0 or higher (512 MB video card recommended) (see supported list)*
  • Sound Card: DirectX 9.0 or 10.0 compliant sound card (5.1 sound card recommended)
  • DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0 libraries (included on disc)
  • DVD-ROM: DVD-ROM dual-layer drive
  • Hard Drive Space: 12 GB
  • Peripherals Supported: Keyboard, mouse, optional controller (Xbox 360 Controller for Windows recommended)
  • *Supported Video Cards at Time of Release:
    ATI RADEON X1300-1950 / HD 2000 / 3000 series
    NVIDIA GeForce 6600-6800 / 7 / 8 / 9 series
  • Yeah. Basically you can spend close to 3 grand to play the PC version, or about 400 bucks to play the next gen console version. Does anyone else find this absurd?

PC gaming will never die, it’s the only “system” that has tested time. I could actually make a computer good enough for the recommend specs for about a grand(minus monitor, ect.) Just search newegg.com

@CJ – You are right. You can put together a computer that is better than those specs for $1000 if you know how to shop right. Here is what I would go for.

      Core 2 Duo E6600
      4GB Ram
      (2) 8800GT SLi
      Nforce 680i motherboard
      500-600W power supply
      320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive

If you search in the right places you can get that setup for around 1K.

    3. I was using some hyperbole with the 3 grand, but has anyone said anything about a HD monitor? And my overall pt here was that some of us, i.e. you guys, have the tech wherewithal to find this deals. The average person will blindly buy an XPS or Alienware. What happens in a yr when DX11 is the min and you need to buy a new machine for GoW2?

PC gaming can suck my ass.

I don’t like PC gaming anymore. I still love CS:S, and I’m playing a little UT3 right now. However, I like console gaming because it is inexpensive compared to PC gaming, and you don’t have to build one yourself to get a good price. (Unless you buy from Ibuypower.com or something)… they have spotty computers sometimes though.

Yea its true many people get an alienware or xps for gaming and they work pretty well, but i agree are way over priced. Got a asus f3sv w/ most of specs just had to pop in another gig of ram. When DX11 comes around people w/ laptops will have to get a new one but most can just pop in a new PCI graphics card and will be good to go.

Lol. Gotta love the PC gamer haters. Ok, a few things on this:

      1. Consoles are great for some types of games. I own several. I like them.

      2. Who do you know that has a PC JUST for gaming? If you’re like most people, you have a PC anyway, so you don’t count the price of the entire PC as a gaming expense. The only part of a PC that you buy specifically for gaming is the video card. Except for when consoles are first released, your typical $300 video card (less than most consoles currently) is far more powerful than any console at that moment.

      3. Standards like DirectX don’t change much more often that new generations of consoles come out, so worrying about your hardware becoming out of min spec in that regard is silly. In fact, all current games still support DX9 (which is what most people still use). DX10 is just picking up steam and will be viable for years. DirectX 9 has been around since 2002!!! Hmmm…..

      4. Good deals on PCs are not hard to find and you don’t have to build yourself. I mean, really.

      5. My current PC is almost 3 years old. I just put a new video card in it (8800 GTS G92 512MB) for $300 and I can run Crysis on high at 1920×1200 res. No existing console could do that. That doesn’t sound all that expensive to me.

      6. Monitors? Don’t you have to buy a HDTV to play consoles in HD as well? I got a Dell 2407WFP 24″ widescreen LCD last year for ~$500 and it will be my primary monitor for years.

      7. I just like some types of games a lot better on the PC. Anyone that has played FPS games on a PC very much and says that FPS games are not full-on gimped on consoles is lying through their teeth. Sorry, but I feel REALLY strongly about that one. I don’t even bother buying FPS games for any of my consoles.

Just my 2 cents…I like every type of hardware.

@Fragloser – …and that machine that you’ve spec’d out around 1-large FAR surpasses the recommended specs listed. I mean, you listed 2 8800gt’s in SLI while one 8800GT surpasses the recommended spec…not to mention the CPU…so you could go ahead and knock off another $250-$300 for the second video card.

    8. [...] go along with it’s hefty system requirements, Assassin’s Creed for PC will get a few extra missions to satisfy your killing [...]

    9. N

I’ve played that pre-released leaked copy of Assassin’s Creed and I can say (even though it’s not really finished yet), the game runs much better than Crysis on highest. The high requirements are probably very over-rated.

One problem though, is the game insists on running in widescreen no matter what res you pick, which causes thick black lines at the top and bottom of the screen. Very annoying and un-needed.

I have purchased Asassassin’s Creed for UK because I lived in UK and i must say, the req. they posted on the website is completely BS!!! My comp specs as followings:
      Dual-core 2 Duo 2.5 6mb/800mhz
      geforce 8800gt 512mb
      3gig ram
      windows home pre. 32-bit

MAXIMUM settings on everything!!! and im getting 60fps !!! THE GAME IS SMOOTH AS MY BABY’S butt!!!NO LAG, NO STUTTER AND MOST OF ALL the game sucked!
