Remember Xbox Live being broken for a little over 3 weeks? I sure do. And remember that letter than Microsoft’s General Manager of Xbox Live, Marc Whitten, promising a free Xbox Live game? The wait to find out what game we’re getting is finally over.
Undertow will be available beginning next Wednesday, 2:00 a.m. PST through Sunday, 11:59 p.m. PST for free to all Xbox Live members worldwide. This includes you Silver members too.
What’s upsetting is they’re giving away a game that was released in November 2007. So you either have it already, or you don’t want it. Great way to smooth things over, Microsoft. They really should have given everyone any game they wanted up to 800 Microsoft Points. That would have made everyone happy. Let us know your thoughts on getting this game to make up for 3 weeks of no Xbox Live.

[UPDATE}
Many XBL owners already purchased Undertow. The obvious next question is what do they do? Chances are the hardcore owners who already bought the game are probably the most affected by the outage. Majornelson promises that MS will “take care” of those who already bought it. Here is a direct link to a comment made by Major himself.

I think Microsoft is handling this all wrong.
that stinks
You blame the electric company’s when your power goes out, your cable provider when your tv’s go out, internet provider when you lose that. all of which you pay for and they never offer any refund, usually barely and apology if any are down for a period of time. Blame your mechanic or dealer when your car breaks down, which you then pay to fix, with no added benefits or free lube job. The fact is that there was a problem, they fixed it and it will most likely not happen again. The fact they even apologized should be good enough, they are a company with millions of subscribers and do their best to keep the products they supply in top condition.
The electric company by me gives out credits for outages.
The cable company does as well. That cable company also is my ISP.
I only blame the dealer if the car breaks down due to a defect, which the dealer’s warranty covers. If I damage a car on the road in say a pothole, my insurance covers it.
Your arguments hold no water.
If Microsoft fixed the problem, good. But that does not excuse the outage. and no, an empty apology means nothing, just like it means nothing when professional athletes apologize after being caught cheating. They’re not sorry the system was down. They’re only sorry people noticed.
what, where’s metal slug?
