Xbox Live - Major Problems Still Going On

Xbox Live Logo

Another night, more problems with Xbox Live. I think it’s time to put a ton of money into some new servers there guys. Bragging about the best Holiday lineup ever for months, and then having your flagship service go down, causing tons of issues of both single player and online play? Not the best way to roll into 2008. According to the Xbox Support page currently:

Users may experience issues logging into Xbox Live. We are aware of the issue and are currently working to resolve it. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I personally can’t sign in. Which means I can’t play my Arcade games. I have friends over who wanted to play some Street Fighter 2. Yep, there’s no chance of that happening, since this is nowhere near my first console. I’m paying good money for this service, and it’s causing me to not be able to play games offline. Not making me happy right now.

[Update] Even though the service is quoted as running fine right now (2pm EST), I still can’t connect. An Xbox Live Connection Test passes everything except Xbox Live. Good times.

[Update 2] As of 2:45pm EST, Xbox support page is now saying the service is down, with the same message as quoted above.

yea big deal everyone, calm down. For the most part microsoft has done an excellent job with the service. It is NEVER down. It’s always up and running when you need it, so i think that this time, we can give ms a break. The will install new servers. Just be patient. Happy Holidays and happy gaming everyone!!

Get a serious grip on life man! XboxlIVE HAS SERVED US WELL ALL THESE YEARS.
They will sort it out, like they always do, so stop whining already.

This is all due to the Xmas buying spree that people usually get themselves in this time of the year. All it means is that the XbboxLive community is growing fatter and fatter, and the MS udders can provide us all at the same time.

…You think they are not aware of this problem? …You think they are not working on it? …Relax, have a coke and a popcicle and shut this shit up!

i think you miss his point - he cant play a game offline because the online service isnt working.

thats what happens when you transfer your games to a new console when your old one dies.

    its pretty crap

You guys are easy to please. Xbox Live costs $50 a year. Most people will get a new game or the console over the holidays. But you can’t use it online.

You should expect a paid service to work.

@Eric / Bobby / Charlie / Cheboury - This is a big deal actually. In the past 2 months, the xbox live service has been going to shit. I PAY for my service. Maybe money isn’t a big deal to you guys, but if I’m paying for an online service, it better damn work properly.

When Halo 3 came out, everything got fucked up. Then when COD4 came out, everything got messed up again. Since then, my LIve connection has always been on or off.

I don’t know what you guys are thinking. To my knowledge the PS3 online has been flawless, with no major interuptions and they don’t pay for their service.

Microsoft should have increased their server space after Halo came out. It is also annoying in that most of us have arcade games that we need to sign online to play, which is fucking annoying. See I have friends… and if we just want to kick back late at night after going out playing an arcade game, I sure as hell hope that I can actually play games that I paid for.

Thank you Guy and Pawn for seeing what is really the issue here. I hate xbox fanboys, they piss me off. 360 is better IMO, but we don’t need fanboys like you posting unintelligent shit.

Oh and whoever said its never down… its been down a lot since Halo came out. That or it has had tons of problems lag wise/connecting to online games. I have my NAT set to open (xbox is on a static-ip and I have the DMZ on my router set to it, so its not a problem with my ports).

Yea, I have to say i’m pretty pissed as well. XBL is a great online service, better than wii but i’m not to familiar than PS3.

However, being down for over a week is BAD. I’ve been gaming online since 99, and this is some of the worst online issues i’ve ever seen.

And the most annoying part is I see other people playing with less issues! And all my other wireless machines are working fine… So is it completely random, or are the newcomers to XBL getting shat on? Or maybe its certain cities? All I know is that it SUCKS to have 6 new games and only 1 of them works online FAIRLY consistently.

But don’t fear, XBL’s status is “up and running”

I did expect this but not this bad. Everyone who bought an Xbox 360 game is going to at the very least get the one month free trial. I hoped that they had planned for this contingency, appears not.

What pisses me off about this is the fact that I pay actual money to use a service that has either been not working or spotty at best over the past week and a half.

If it were free like PSN, I wouldn’t complain, but come on. We all know Microsoft will not be issuing refunds or MS point credits for the downtime and all around spotty service so yeah, us paying customers have more than enough reason to be griping.

I wanted to finish Halo 3 with my nephew, I couldn’t do it over Live. Instead, I had to travel ~1.5 hours to his place so we could finish it yesterday.

I wanted to play Rock Band over Live, couldn’t do that either.

If the service has problems, Microsoft should take the servers down, fix it, and issue us a point credit of some sort or another free month.

And before any idiot comes and says anything about fanboyism, my Xbox Live account has been around since Live’s beta days (nostars).

Tried to play some Halo 3, wanted to co-op it. Just now, I still can’t connect to Xbox Live. Even though Microsoft is claiming the service is up and running with no problems. During playing single player, I saw a pop-up that I was connected to Xbox Live. Then about a minute later it said I was disconnected.

It’s getting ridiculous. I’m paying to be able to play online (which is really the only reason to pay for Live, you get everything else free with Silver), and I’m not able to do anything. Hell, I can’t even play my XBLA games since I’ve gone through so many 360’s (I have to be connected to Live since I didn’t buy the games on this console).

Microsoft, step it the hell up now. The biggest gaming time of the year and people can’t play on your console. Great job.

Shut the fuck up- it takes time to fix server problems. Think about how many more people are on XBL now after the Xmas rush. Msoft DID update their servers for both Halo 3 and COD4, and the shit still doesn’t work. I’ve been playing both with no problem (and yes, I do mean both, every single day) up until now; you must have something wrong with your connection.
So if they updated them for games, they did the same in advance for Xmas, and weren’t expecting this many people. You’re not the only one having problems, so stop bitching and (like everyone else has said,) be patient.
We will prob get reimbursed somehow for the week we missed.

for everyone who is complaining about people whinning and bitching… to my knowledge this is a gaming website to inform people of whats happening in the gaming community… therefore it seems only natural artciles are posted to inform readers that the xbl service has been shotty in recent weeks. either way, honestly sit there and tell me its not even a little frustrating when your cable goes out for no apparent reason other then there’s alot of people watching tv, is there any difference with xbl?

calm down and save that blood vessel thats about to go.

relax and read the comments in the proper context and you might actually understand what people are saying.

Don’t tell me microsoft couldn’t predict months in advance an influx on server demands with the release of COD4, Halo 3, and HD movie download services during Christmas time. It’s poor business planning. Some fat overweight exec probably thought that their current servers would be sufficient, and that an investment in new servers wasn’t needed.

man you guys need to quit your wining and just wait. jeez get a job or something so you can buy a new game, get a new accesory, or some crap like that. by the way you guys probably didn’t get the news but for your money spent microsoft is giving everyone who has xbl gold during the downtime a free xbox arcade game. now if you would get your nerdy selfs off your butts and read the newspapers you would now that. its in the section called business they annouced it on jan. 4th.

    @ Lazy:

We all have jobs. High paying jobs actually. Do you think web space is free? As far as the XBL game, lets not call that satisfactory compensation until said game is released. I reported on that free game when we got the press release. It seems that you are too lazy to use punctuation and proper spelling.
