Alright we all know that in Japan (and everywhere else for that matter) Nintendo reigns supreme. Sales of the Wii and the DS handheld have formed a sort of ‘one-two’ punch combo that topples the sales of every other game company out there.
Except last week.
It has been reported that in Japan this combo has been broken up by the very high sales of Sony’s PSP handheld. Sales soared so high it toppled even the mighty Nintendo Wii – not a small feat.
The week also saw the sales of Sony’s handheld doubled from 91,000 to 184,000 – which was odd considering that no big titles had come out. In fact, nobody could find a reason for such a large surge in Sony’s sales (maybe it’s Voo Doo, it is often times Voo Doo). Nintendo Wii sales that week were 171,000. DS sales were (of course) impressive with 222,000+ units sold. PS3 sold around 63,000 units and the poor, poor XBOX 360 failed to gain ground in the Japanese market once again with a abysmal 8,500 units sold – DAMN!
Not surprisingly Nintendo still took the big chunk-o-sales with 392,702 units sold against Sony’s 248,330 units (big numbers eh?).
Thats all for now. As always let us know what you think on the subject.
Durka!

Be nice to see the source. I’m particularly interested in PS2 sales… because it’s quite possible that there are more DSes in circulation than there are PS2s right now in Japan.
Last week, DS was over 200,000 shy of PS2’s lifetime sales. This week with nearly 400,000 sales, I’m sure they’ve passed them.
Nice PSP pic, is that from your personal stash?
JK Trix you might want to check your source. ps2 has a lifetime mark of 142 million units. Are you sure DS has passed them now? PS2 according to NPD is the highest selling console to date in video game history. Including handhelds. It’ll be a while before anyone else even comes close (if possible)
