Earlier today Amazon.com reported that it had sold at an average of seventeen per second the Nintendo Wii console. Thats 1,020 per minute, 10,200 every ten minutes. It also reported that Dec. 10th was the strongest sales day with 5.4 million products, or 62.5 items selling every second.
Amazon also stated that besides Wii sales, DVD’s sold very well. The fifth Harry Potter movie “The Order of the Phoenix” had high numbers along with “Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End”. GPS systems, KitchenAid Stand Mixers and the Apple MacBook sold particularly well on the website.
My guess is that they had just about several hundred Wii units to sell - which of course sold out immediately - and thats where they got their numbers from. Its not as if there were thousands of Wii’s just flying around now was it?
Anyways. Impressive numbers still (and not surprising to anyone I’m sure).

I doubt they have enough stock to sell 10,200 units in a day. 1,000 maybe, but considering how hard they are to get (even online) I doubt 10,200.
