XviD on the PS3 – Streaming Issues – How to Make it Work

PS3 Horizontal

Just want to point out an issue with streaming XviD to the PS3 after today’s firmware update. I’m sure a few of you have gotten pissed off at it not working. Let me know tell you all about it.

Streaming XviD from Windows Media Player 11 does NOT work. Streaming from any other application DOES. So if you’re using Tversity or Nero Home or anything like that, you’ll be able to stream DivX and XviD with no problems. For whatever reason, WMP11 messes everything up.

Personally, I copy stuff to a flash drive and move it over. Streaming over wireless gets iffy when there’s a lot of other network traffic.

I don’t want to alarm anyone, but maybe the reason it doesn’t work with WMP11 is because WMP is by Microsoft. Conspiracy, thy name is Windows Media Player.

So far the only videos I have been unable to successfully stream to my PS3 from my laptop (using Media Center) is MP4s. I try to play them and get a invalid file format error, although the videos work fine on my laptop and ipod.
