We brought you early news yesterday, but you can now download firmware v2.10 on your PS3 to get DivX playback and Blu-Ray profile 1.1. These are huge updates for media lovers out there.
You can also play around with your voice settings in voice chat only, which is nice. Do whatever you want in chat sessions, but not in game. Good call with that feature there Sony. I can’t tell you how much I hate listening to little kids with voice masque enabled in games.
I played an XviD movie I ripped for testing on the PS3 and it looks great. So all of you out there with your 100% legit DivX and Xvid movies (because we all know everyone’s files are 100% legit, right?) can have your fill of both streaming and direct play on the PS3. One caveat here: files can’t be larger than 2GB. So unless you have a really high quality HD rip, you’ll be fine. Artificial size limits FTL.
Happy downloading.

I only have one DiVx movie (The Fifth Element). Unfortunately, I also have the Fifth Element on Blu-Ray. You know which one I’m watching, the one where Mila Jovovich is in higher def.
