For whatever ungodly reason, Naughty Dog’s first PS3 entry Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune has failed to live up to expectations on the sales floor. The NPD group has reported that only 117,000 copies were sold during the first two weeks. Leaving Uncharted out of the top ten software sales for the month of November. Personally, I think it’s a travesty. Drunk Pandas gave this a 4.75 of 5. Hell, just about everyone raved about this one.
I know not every game can be a COD4 (which sold 444,000 copies last month alone), and it did do better that Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (74,500), Warhawk (58,600) and Lair (46,500). But I was expecting it to do better than Heavenly Sword (which sold 139,000 while we’re tossing numbers about).
It could be that it was more hard to market in these days of ‘kill the beast with multiple jaws’ games, especially on a system thats still gaining momentum. In my opinion it shouldn’t be, but then again I love videogames that are made well, regardless of genre.
Anyways.
It could also have been that Sony recently canned their Advertising Agency TBWA. They’ve been together the better part of ten years. Perhaps Sony hasn’t quite gotten used to whomever they’ve picked up instead.

I think the problem with Uncharted is it’s marketing, or lack thereof. If Sony had thrown some money behind the game for commercials and a good campaign, more people would know about it. I think the casual game, who would really love this title, just don’t know much about it.
Matt’s right, sony did a lousy job of marketing this game. I think I saw only one commercial for it.
Honestly the only thing I’ve ever seen for Uncharted, aside from videos on the PSN, is the new commercials with the various gameplay videos. You see 1-2 seconds of Nathan Drake jumping from one cliff to another.
If Naughty Dog and Sony put some marketing behind this (and this applies to other big PS3 titles this year like Ratchet and Warhawk), I think you’d see those sales numbers way higher. The casual gamer who isn’t browing gaming websites every day might not even have any idea what Uncharted is.
man this is a great game, period! I’m an xbox man myself and I have to say I purchased a ps3 just for this one! Come on Sony, THINK!
