Time Magazine Releases Their Top 10 Games of the Year that has Halo 3 #1; Bioshock #5

the-dude-time-man.jpg
Time Magazine might be the most recognizable magazine in our country and maybe the world. They have covered some of the most turbulent times in history and now has taken a stab at video games. Jesus tapdancing Christ. Here is the list. I will save you the annoyance of clicking through.

  1. Halo 3
  2. Half Life 2: The Orange Box
  3. Rock Band
  4. Super Mario Galaxy
  5. Bioshock
  6. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
  7. The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass
  8. Mass Effect
  9. Ace Combat 6
  10. God of War 2

What the fuck? I understand that PS2 is last gen, but you better have a huge set of balls to rate God of War 2 lower than Ace Combat 6. Somehow the DS version of Zelda beat out the wii version? Metroid was not even mentioned. Bioshock rated lower than Rock Band? Rock Band is fun but you cannot even begin to compare to the two. Halo 3 sold hundreds of millions of copies but that does not make it the game of the year, ironically, winning no major awards at the VGA’s. Half Life 2, hey, great port, but number 2? Also notice, not one PS3 exclusive title made it. A chimpanzee could have picked these games out of his ass in a better order.

    Allow me to correct Time
    1. Bioshock-you all know why and if you dont go buy the game
    2. Halo 3-sold a ton of copies and brought gaming really mainstream-like its not already- great online w/ video capture, almost perfect matchmaking and the bigest fan base/ owners make sure you have plenty of people to play w/
    3. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare- great great game. Story is good and can be challenging on hard but is still fast, arcade is fun but lacks replay value for me. Online is were this thing shines. The perks system makes this game a lot better than Halo in my mind. Allowing you to change the way you play and getting better guns and accessories is a much better incentive than just a good k/d.
    3. Orange Box- you cant beat this deal, a trilogy of what i think is the best FPS franchise- a very different online shooter and the game that makes it 4, portal.
5,6,7- in no real order- Mass Effect, Super Mario Galexey and Rock Band/ guitar Hero- As i don’t have a 360 i cant rate Mass effect (i have played halo 3 a lot though) no wii for super mario and i dont own either RB or GH. All look like great games and have recived great reviews. Anyway that my opinion…. so dont et mad if you think other wise

I agree with rhomp’s lists, except in the placement of halo 3 and call of duty 4, cod4 has a much better campaign and multiplayer. AND WHERE THE FUCK IS GEOMETRY WARS?

yea i only put H3 so high because it was so mainstream and was the biggest launch ever. The gameplay is a real old though, i can only get so much chief. heres the rest of the list
    5. Mass Effect- as i said have not played but awesome combo of shoter rpg really apealls to me. it adds another layer of realisam.
    6. GHIII Rock band- for me one in the same. very similar gameplay but w/ more stuff for rockband, but better image/rep of GHIII i think its song list is better.
    7. Uncharted Drakes Fortune- What a next gen game- i forgot to mention it but i own this sick game and environments are stunning and movement looks great, really nice jump/climbing animations. a very nice adventure/shooter game that is very fun on hard. only thing i dont like is the water does not look real. i have never been to a tropical island but the water cant be that clean.
    8. Super Mario Galxey- looks sweet, fun intuitive and dare i say makes the wii game play a bit more 3d, quite a bit more. what i mean is that the camera makes you look at things so they look spacey meaning it seem very 3D.
    9. Skate- WHAT?? is what im sure people are saying right now but this game is a godsend for skateboarding games. it brings a really cool control system that is great and makes you practice harder moves a few times before you can land them-just like in real skateboarding. now add that gameplay movie playback and its a great game.
    10. there is no real ten- no other games really stand out- God of war, Warhawk, wii play, ghost recon 2, and forza are all there but none are really super great/ innovative

I think Time did their list based on sales figures. And even that doesn’t make all that much sense.
Uncharted not making the list is an absolute travesty.
I’m glad GHIII didn’t make the list, because quite honestly, the track list is not nearly as good in my opinion as the list for GHII or Rock Band.
