We got a review come in for Game Party for the Wii from out good buddy leenis. Check it out…
The Nintendo Wii put out this game that is a combination of the popular bar games at pubs across America. It consists of five games: Darts, Shuffle Board, Basketball, Air Hockey, and Beer Pong (or their own version of it). Each of these games are Wii remote used, however a lot of it is homed in by clicking where the target is going to go and then using the Wii-mote to just control the speed of the object.
The first game that my roommates and I played was Beer Pong…obviously. You aim with the Wii-mote and click to make your target where you want it. It requires no skill whatsoever to lock the cursor into position where you want the ball to be thrown. Once you figure out where the best placement of the target its just a matter of time before you get the motion down. This makes the game way too easy, anyone that doesn’t have Palsy can put the cursor where they want it and click. Throwing the ball is just as simple.
My roommates and I played this game for maybe an hour, and by about thirty min in we were all half drunk cause we would hit ten cups in a row. Being the idiots that we are, we played by real rules so when a cup was hit the other guy drank. Even half canned this game is just way too easy.
Darts is very similar to Beer Pong with the clicking to aim. However throwing a dart was more challenging. But then again we didn’t play it for very long due to the lack of motivation, or lack of drinking… can’t remember which one.
Basketball is pretty fun. It doesn’t have the aiming mechanism that the the first two games have which is nice. Like the previous two though, it is just way too easy. The movements become repetitious, you get in a rhythm and before you know it your hitting forty shots in a row. Also way to easy.
The next game is air hockey. This game is flat out dumb. The concept is fantastic but the ‘good idea guy’ must have been taking a dump when this game was created. They made the air hockey table view horizontal which, anyone who has ever played air hockey knows that this game is never viewed like this. If this game was created like the touch screen games are playing in a bar it would be fantastic. Again, reference the good idea guy taking a dump why this game is not played this way.
On to the final game on Wii Game Party. Of the five this is the only one they got correct, and they nailed it…Shuffleboard. It is played in the similar fashion that is played in bars from the point of view of the player. The sensitivity of the actual throw is a little tough to get the hang of but when you do its great. The reason why this game is great is because it never becomes too easy, well unless the dude that your playing is awful. The scoring is correct and puck ricochets are as well. This portion of the game almost makes it worth buying alone.
All in all the Wii’s Game Party is kinda useless and is just way too easy. I’ll admit that I was psyched to find out that they were making bar games on Wii. I think the anticipation make it even more painful. The games, with the exception of shuffleboard, are either too easy or the vantage point is just way off. It’s like waiting for that brand new bikes for Christmas, you walk down stairs and your parents got you a fucking razor scooter, a good concept but nothing like what you wanted.
My overall rating…. 2.75 out of 5
