This one I really don’t understand. Developer Treyarch-responsible for the debacle that was COD3, has announced Call Of Duty 5. The peculiar thing is the series’ return to the WWII time period. Why on earth would you release another WWII shooter when your series has a hit with COD: Modern Warfare? Especially when you screwed up the release before?!
I don’t know if they trying to redeem themselves. But with a move like this, it’s hard not to think in that direction. I for one think that if they’re trying to prove something they should build upon recent success and focus on not effing it up like previous entries.
For Christ’s sake, Treyarch’s gone and posted a job opening for a level designer on their site. Way to have confidence in your abilities guys. Well done.

Yeah the move back to WW2 is a very dumb one. People are loving the modern era in shooters now. WW2 is beyond played out

I really don’t think the WWII thing is gonna happen. People will express so much discontent that it will not happen. With the success of Modern Warfare, they would be idiots to do that and I for one have no desire to buy that game.
i dont like WWII any more….. WWIII any one????? A new sci fi shooter would be fun, and make it really sci fi like with humans having bullets and plasma and really innovative stuff and alieans with super fire power and crazy motives

They’ll make cod 5 crap (reason why its going to treyarch) so cod 6 will sell really well. Thats what happened with cod 3, let infinity ward focus on cod 4, same will happen with cod 6.
u know what they should have is a COD:5 survivalist and make levels that are timed and u just have 2 survive
Yes,to think that they have made such a success with Call Of Duty 4, why make the next one worse by making it BACK in world war 3? In all honest, they should make the new COD in the future,that way it would fit in slightly with the time periods of each games. The story line in COD4, yes i admit,it wasn’t that good, but making the next one in the past may be worse.
Perhaps it has something to do with regional markets. Call Of Duty 4 was banned here in Dubai because you’re basically shooting Arabs for many of the levels. I had to buy it when I was in London. I was also banned in other countries out this way.

And I’d rather another ww2 game than something shooting zombies/aliens. The key is to make it more free roaming rather than the very linear feel of pretty much every ww2 fps aside from Medal Of Honour Airborne – which was still pretty limited.
I like WW2, espeally this one since it’s going to be in the pacific, but they should make one for WW1, 1700’s, Medieval, ect.
In COD 5 you will no longer be killing Germans, but you will be killing Japanese and Rusians. The game is in the pacific and in one campaign you play as the Germans on the Russian front. Combat will also take place in India, (British Imperial soldiers defending the EITC against Imperial Japan). So it is basiclly completely deferent than what was say in COD1, COD2, and COD3.

The moved back to ww2 because thats what they started with before. Well its no only that. I’ll tell you why. They’re moving back to ww2 because ww2 was a great hit since 1998! Not only that have any of you guys played the brothers in arms series. thats been a great hit on ww2 . the 3rd series is coming out on 8/21/08. this game has an A.I thats basically better than any ww2 games , and it also allows you to command a squad. call of duty is actually going back to ww2 in the pacific. they wanted to beat the [bia] series .
I vote for the Korean war and the we can then get some cute asian chics on the side, cheering for the soldier(s). No pun intended!

This i by far the stupiest thing i have ever read… why would they go back in time? do they work for Doc Brown? why fix somethign thats not broken. i think we all hope this game comes out as a success but also see thats going to be hard to make happen seeing that they screwed up the first time they tryed on COD3.

i really love call of duty 4 all the up-to-date vocab and weapons but i’m happy to hear its ww11 because i get a chance to experience ww11 instead of listening to those veterans on the history channels who don’t remember a half of what the eff there talking about

Coming from a 3x Champion of the Central States of North America tpurnaments for Call of Duty 4.. I think we need to either go back to a War we skipped which would be Vietnam..or we move up to the real deal Iraq and Afghanistan Conflict Wars..able to use vehicles and way more advanced weaponary systems

personally i think COD 4 hit the nail on the head. I dont think that game can be improved upon except with more levels and different enemys. Maybe new vehicles like tanks which can be called in, or the ability to control the aircraft weapons, similar to campaign mode. they could introduce body explosions as well when grenades go off. just a thought.
ps and guys please stop making comments about asian chicks or sleeping with girls. Its a video game seriously get a girlfriend

I for one think this is a terrible idea. Yea, WWII was a hit before, but just how many games can you make about it before your audience wants a change? How about the civil war? That would be something I would like to play for more than a five day rental period. I love the COD series, but judging by the subject matter and the developer, I’d call COD5 a rent only game. I don’t know though, I guess I’ll have to try it before I can make the final call on that.
Yeah I think it’s a bad move through and through. The Modern Warfare was (and IS) such a refreshing take on the CoD series, and I cold never comprehend why they would distort it by going vintage again to WW2. Oh well, at least I can hope for more kickass gameplay and intensely interactive environment…
That is stupid they should go a bit further in tme but not as far as halo just to the point of really strong guns that hit fast and far.
I like both COD2 and COD4.
I have finished both several times (COD2 in Veteran and COD4 in Hard mode) and I don’t uninstall them.
It’s fun to complete a level or two every day.
I don’t know why but I have noticed that I choose to play COD2 more often than I play COD4. I guess I like the WW2 scenarios and atmosphere.
Even the game engine is older, I prefer COD2 to COD4.
For me, Activision making a WW2 with COD4 engine is a good choice.
Maybe after this, I’ll be able to uninstall COD2 which is on my PC since 2005.
The only reason ww2 is played out is because they make the exact same game over and over again, with online viechles and more then just usa saving the world it will be awesome
I actually don’t mind the WWII battlefield all that much. I have played many games with it and it seems to be a theme that sells. When they released COD 4: Modern Warfare I was thinking it was going to be set in the future a bit with a WWIII type of game or make up some conflict. I think they would do themselves a favor however by making a future conflict that is set in the year 2060 or something though and potentiallybring it to a somewhat space aged feeling with new technologies that dont exist. You could easily compare this to something like the Half-Life engine but I havent seen a good game out for the xbox with a community like COD has where it is something in the future on earth. Other then HALO, which is a whole nother group on its own. I would love to see a world war 3 kind of game or even something that is between two fictional nations that might exist in the future with biosuits and HUDs as well as futuristic guns like rail guns, etc. All the same I still do enjoy the WWII theatre and will be purchasing a copy of World @ War

i think its a great idea to make the game on the eastern front.
the russians lost more men in one month than the whole anglo forces did throught the whole war, it was alot more brutal on the eastern front.

My suspicions are that most people have gone back to CoD4 just like I have, but I’d love to see some official numbers to see if this is true… Come on CoD6!!

WWII is the best story line of historic consequence. All different theaters of battles, all different armies. I’m now buying a PS3 just because of this game.
