Fall Dashboard Update Kills My 8th Xbox 360… Yes, 8th

Smashed Xbox 360

I swear to God, I’m so fed up with broken Xbox 360’s. This is my f’ing 8th console to die. MY F’ING 8TH!!!!!!! Quality Assurance my ass. This is ridiculous. This is piss poor product development and testing.

Like I’ve said before, I haven’t had any other systems die on me. Ever. The Xbox 360 is the only system ever to break. And now I’ve gone through 8 of them. Tonight, after grabbing the new Fall Dashboard Update, it started making weird noises and froze up in Guitar Hero 3. When I turned it off and back on… guess what? Yep. Red Ring of Death. Good times people. Good times.

It’s not like I treat it like crap. It’s babied. My Xbox 360 has it’s own shelf in the entertainment center, with full ventilation from the front and rear. The power brick also sits on the shelf fully ventilated. The console is never moved when playing (in fact, it’s only moved a tiny bit once a week to dust). The console is kept perfectly clean, as are my other systems. I haven’t had any problems with my PS3 (save long install times) or my Wii. Never had problems with my PS2, Xbox, or Gamecube before that.

I really hope someone from Microsoft reads this. This is unacceptable. Once my Best Buy replacement plan is up, I’m done. Having 8 consoles fail on me in a little over 2 years is ludicrous. I’m sorry Halo and Gears of War, but if I have to worry every time I turn the console on that it might die, it’s not worth my trouble. Which is just really sad. I love the games on Xbox 360. I really do. But until they get the manufacturing issues worked out, it’s not worth the hassle anymore in my eyes.

Here’s to hoping your 360’s don’t die from the update. Cheers.

I’m pretty certain that the Fall Update is the cause of the “Open Tray” error. I have 2 xboxes.

My 1st Xbox has the Fall Update with the “Open Tray” error. This has not been flashed so it still has the original firmware.

My 2nd Xbox does not have the Fall Update or the “Open Tray” error. It has been flashed with Hitachi Firmware and works perfectly fine.

There is no problem with the DVD Drives as both drives work fine in my 2nd Xbox but none of them work in the my 1st Xbox.

So, my conclusion is that it must be the Fall Update as the “Open Tray” error happen straight after I updated it, and both the DVD Drives work fine as long as they’re not in an xbox that has the Fall Update.

To confirm my conclusion, I updated my 2nd xbox and straight away got the “Open Tray” error, so none of my DVD Drives would work in both of my xboxes. Then I got the RROD error, so I did the X-Clamp repair and when I booted it up the Fall Update was uninstalled and the DVD Drive was now working. The “Open Tray” error was no more.

I am currently trying to find out how to uninstall the Fall Update but have had no luck. I have had the RROD on my 1st Xbox aswell now but when I booted it up the Fall Update was still installed and the “Open Tray” error is still a problem.

    WHAT IS MICROSOFT UP TO?

    Hi
I have had 5 xbox 360’s and counting.
    They still keep dying.
I think the biggest problem is overheating, I am now running my 6th with only half a case on and I have a household mains fan running on it all the time. Touch wood this one has lasted the most length of time with no problems and no ring of fire as yet.
