Developer and publisher Capcom announced that they have shipped 1 Million copies of Resident Evil 4 for the Nintendo Wii as of Oct. 30th, 2007. They also announced that, as of this date, the series has shipped over 33 million copies worldwide. The original being released in 1996. Wow!
Now as most of you know, Resident Evil 4 had first come out for the Nintendo Gamecube in Jan. 2005 receiving huge praise from the gaming community (it also sold many a Gamecube if you recall). The PS2 edition released Oct. 25 (with additional content), and the PC edition was out May 15th this year, proof of the games staying power amongst other shooters. But for many, the Wii edition is when RE4 really broke out of its shell.
As written in Capcom’s press release “[The] RE4 Wii Edition retains the intensity of the original Resident Evil 4 while bringing players a totally new play experience through the use of the Wii Remote”. Also adding “[that] In this way, by retaining the interest of the core fanbase and expanding outward toward new casual players through the Wii platform, Capcom has broken the 1 million units milestone, and successfully captured the attention of a new set of users”.
Capcom continued on by stating that they would “aggressively pursue unique and inspired creations” for Nintendo’s console. These titles include Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles-which is set for Nov. 13th, and We Love Golf! which is said to be coming out sometime in 2008.
Well, what can we say Capcom. If you continue to make games worth playing, We’ll play them. I say well done to you for your success.
