UT3 goes gold, so what?

UT3Ok I admit that I am a bit of a sarcastic person, but the announcment today that Unreal Tournament 3 went gold, really does not change my life. It seems like every game when they are coming out goes gold, so why should UT3 be any difference. UT3 will be tons of fun on the PC and expect a lot of players to jump back into this title head first, but don’t expect people to get excited over Midway and EPic announcing it went gold. Call me when video games start going triple uranium!!

I think that the reason why all of these games are going gold is because a lot of them are multi-platform. That means thata game that wouldn’t normally be gold, can go gold since they have the interest of PC gamers, 360 users, and PS3 users.

Yeah it is just kind of dumb that i get emails almost daily announcing some other game just went gold, yesterday was Crysis, today UT3. I am sure all the holiday titles will also go gold, its not such a big deal anymore.

Somehow I think you’re missing the point. ‘Going Gold’ just means that the game is finished and off to the manufacturers. I suppose for the ‘bigger’ games, announcing its ‘gold’ status just assures its fans that the game will not be delayed any further and will in fact be ready on the promised date.

Recent things like Mass Effect, Crysis and UT3 ‘going gold’ assure the fans that it will be coming as scheduled.

Other things like EA’s Army of Two, which was set to be released in 2 weeks, had obviously not reached ‘gold’/ready-to-go status, as it was delayed ’til next year.

I don’t think they ever mean for it to be ‘a big deal’, it is just assuring you that this game will not be delayed.

@Jktrix - I agree with you, but why should we celebrate the fact that developers are going to meet hteir promise date? Its almost like saying look we didnt fuck up come shower us with love, you will get your game on time. I say shame on them, if you say it comes out in June then it should comeo ut in June and not have shenanigans that make it come out five months form then, Duke Nukem is a prime example, right now that game is DooDoo Bronze, hahahaha

The whole idea of a game going ‘gold’ means just one thing. That a master copy (or ‘gold’ copy) of the game is ready to be sent to the distributer for mass production. It has nothing to do with number of sales (like a music album).

Either way, it doesn’t matter to me. I don’t need to see it announced all over the place that they will be shipping the game on time. Already had that understood. They only need to make announcements when they CANT get it out on time.
