Oblivion (XBOX 360): Fighter’s Stronghold Add-On Review

So it’s time again for Bethesda Software to release another add-on for one of everyone’s favorite role-playing games. This time they’ve created a castle mission called the Fighters Stronghold. Let’s take a look shall we?

As far as add-ons go, this one seems to be pretty spot-on (if not par for the course). Nestled deep in the Colovian Highlands lies a castle called Battlehorn–a fairly generic, run down looking place on the decline furnished with some drab surroundings (apparently they had to sell everything to make rent…no, really, I’m not kidding). But it is rather large and easy to get lost in for the first half hour–that could be because its empty though.

Of course, you can’t just waltz in and start frolicking about (are you allowed to do that in a battle castle? Would you really want to?).  First you have to hack your way through about let’s see…one…four…twelve…thirty…oh wait…six…you have to courageously battle SIX friggin marauders to get the castle. Now I know that times are hard and all, but if your castle is able to fall under siege from six guys clad in fur with balsa-wood swords (I think one of them had one made of tin–must be the Godfather–anyways), then you might want to sell more shit and invest in a catapult. Maybe then you wouldn’t have to give your pad away to a stranger WHILE it’s under attack. I’m just sayin.

All flawed plots aside, once you actually gain ownership of the castle, you’ll learn of the former owners problems and have to figure them out. I won’t ruin the goings-on for anybody (find out for yourself, you lazy goats), but I will say that it’s pretty fun. Short, but fun. Then, like all the other add-ons, there’s someone out there holding all your stuff in storage and you have to pay to get ‘em out (twenty grand ought to do it). The place gets pretty nice afterwards and you learn of a few hidden spots to hold your valuables in so that’s very welcome. All the men who had left return and are at your disposal (nothing like a small army yeah?), including your very own in sparring partner whom you can’t kill (WHOO!!) and servants who will bring you food or drinks from–get this–your very own wine/mead cellar (god I wish I could just jump inside that screen and just………rrrrgh…….sorry, anyways). The best part is that there’s a huge Dwemer forge that maxes out your armor skill so that everything is 125pts durability–a big plus, especially for those who are more on the mage end of things.

All in all, the expansion is a welcome addition and highly recommended by yours truly.

Oh and it’s free. Did I forget to mention that? Silly me. :)

How is Oblivion. I played the first one a bit and didn’t really get into it too much. Also, how long did it take you to get through Fighters Stronghold?

Oblivion is really one of my favorite Role-Playing games ever, the fact that its so huge and it has a series of expansions is nothing new, but the fact that its on a console is truly great. I could go on and on.
I finished this expansion in just under and hour. But what you end up with is still very worth it.

Daniel, the addon “Fighters Stronghold” is free with the GoTY edition of Oblivion for xbox 360, Otherwise, you must buy all additional content unless there is a special promotion etc etc. on Xbox Live Marketplace, The GoTY edition also comes with the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansion disc.
