OK, so it hasn’t exactly been a year since Crackdown’s initial release (if we’re going to be exact, its been nine months), but still, just about all of the buzz and fervor have worn off, and people have moved on to other things. Yet for some reason, I found myself starting a new game and once again losing large chunks of time to its charms. But why? With all the new games that are swirling around right now: Halo 3, Bioshock, Beautiful Katamari, skate., The Orange Box, Ace Combat 6, Eternal Sonata (and so on and so forth), what compels a person to start up a game that they’ve already smacked around like an obnoxious teenager? Let’s discuss, yeah?
Well, first off, there are the additions made via downloadable content, new agent-only vehicles (the tank-like truck and the buggy especially) and new weapons help grab a second interest- though frankly the new weapons aren’t all that great: the chain gun-waaaay too slow, harpoon gun-waaaay too inaccurate, and I swear to god the multi rocket launcher has severe ADD (use it for two minutes, you’ll see). But still, an appreciated effort.
Second, the fact that it’s still fun to build yourself up, flex your muscles for no reason, and run around wreaking havoc. Decimating bad guys en-masse and leaping around from rooftop to rooftop never seems to get old (rocketing down from above and slamming into a busy sidewalk crippling a dozen or so passerby can also induce a cackle or two-heh), and the tight controls ensure that if something goes awry, chances are that its 99.99% your error (the .01% is the interaction with smaller ledges- so watch it).
Lastly, there is the online. For me the ability to hang out with the guys in the comfort of your own homes, run around the city like crazed mongoloids is priceless (HINT: Irish Car-bombs seem to fuel the rage quite nicely and if you smoke, for the love of god make sure you find good herb, there’s nothing worse than schwag, seriously). And lets not forget, from time to time, to give a cohort a swift kick to his characters shins and send him careening off a building 300ft or better. Remember, failing to do so not only insults the developer and your friends, but yourself as well.
So if you haven’t played in a while, give it a go. If you have yet to play, then you might want to get on that (it’s like 25 bucks used), for you are missing a truly fun experience.
Oh and if you’ve played the game and didn’t like it, bite me.

Bought it for the H3 demo and finished it because it was a very good game. I’d recommend this game to anyone.
@ drunk pandas
i bought this game for the game alone, having the chance to play the beta was just an extra. this game is VERY fun to play especially online with a friend. another thing is even if your not after all the achievements they are fun to try and get. such as trying to keep a car in the air for 7 seconds! hard but fun with a friend.
I would also recommend this game to anyone.
I ended up buying this game because it looked really good. I knew the Halo beta was included, so that helped my decision a bit. This game was really fun though, I loved the “level” system.
The only thing I didn’t like was the boss bugs. When you played Co-op sometimes, the boss wouldn’t show up, and so you had to restart the co-op session.
@ Fragloser
yeah i know sometimes that happens, although you dont have to end the session, all you have to do is to kill yourself and the person in your co-op game, spawn at the agency or i think wherever and then go back to the place where the boss is, i dont know if this always works but every time this has happened to me i killed us both with rocket launches and then respawned and when i got to the boss location he was there again, just a tip incase your still playing it
