Ummm, so I guess wireless now has a new meaning? To mean, wireless means you don’t have to plug anything in. The PS3 version of Guitar Hero III must have a different definition. The game requires you to plug in a USB dongle to use the wireless guitars. Not the most ideal situation.
For whatever reason, the game’s guitar controllers don’t take advantage of the PS3’s built in Bluetooth. I’m not sure if it’s a technical issue or if Activision just wanted to use RF instead. Either way, you’ll have to live with the dongles if you’re picking up this game for PS3.

That is asinine. My cat goes nuts trying to attack the wrist straps on the Wii controllers, I could imagine what she would do to that contraption.
Yeah my cats go after the Singstar dongle whenever I play.
As for the 360, I would assume no dongles are needed, as it uses the built in RF of the system. The Wii guitar actually plugs into the Wii-mote, similar to how the Nunchuck works

There are no dongles for the 360 guitars. The 360 version was the one being used at the launch event last week and there were no dongles.
One more point goes to the Microsoft side…RF, I mean come on now sony…
Yeah, it’s pretty pathetic not to have bluetooth built-into the controller, or at least a RF adapter that’s not some cabled dongle that looks like ass.

What is the dongle for? Im ignorant to this game. I bought a guitar for my sons ps3, but it doesnt have a dongle! What the heck do I do?
The dongle is what receives the signal from the guitar. You need it to play with the guitar, if not it wont work.
