If you grabbed a copy of Knocked Up on HD-DVD and are having troubles with the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player and getting this disc to even load, you’re not the only one. I spent a good hour tonight trying to get this disc to play, including a return trip to Best Buy because I thought I got a crap disc. I finally found a solution over at AVS Forum. The people over there are amazing.
- Go to the System blade
- Go down and select Memory
- Go down and Select HD Player (NOT Hard Drive)
- Go down to the bottom entry. More than likely, it will be the largest entry in the list. When the cookie is fully downloaded, it will be 11 MB in size. When I checked for the cookie, it was 1MB in size (at the time i stopped the download). [for me, it was the first in the list, but I deleted all entries in the HD-DVD drive]
- When you have found the entry, DELETE IT.
- Retry starting the movie and wait for the loading screen. When you see it, you will know you have succeeded.
Once you do that, the disc should load up fine and come to a loading screen where it will sit for about 10 minutes. Do NOT hit Cancel, because that will just mess up the cookie download, which will bring you back to the same point of the disc not playing.
Seriously, if either of the HD disc formats wants to win the format war, they need to stop making things so damn complicated for the average user.

You said it Chris. HD movies are fine, but crap like this makes me wanna buy more Blu-Rays for my PS3.
I pretty much buy all my movies in HD now. This type of thing is really what’s preventing either format from really taking hold. Why do I need to spend 10 minutes downloading a cookie before I can watch the movie I just paid for? I think someone needs to rethink some strategy here
Ha ha, they just need to let some actual consumers give them advice. Like who the hell would think of something like that…or better yet, who would approve of something like that? It’s just stupid.
Problems aside this movie is funny as shit…”Is that his rabbi?” “No, I think it’s Matisyahu…” hahahahha. If you’ve seen the movie you get it lol
Thanks for the fix. It played fine the first couple times I played it, but then I went to play it today and it didn’t work. Just got a black screen. Deleted the 11 mb cookie and its working fine now. To all the HD haters… Not all discs require cookie downloads and the cookie downloads are mostly just for online stuff. Some discs make it mandatory that you download it, some don’t. The knocked up cookie took me 3 minutes to download. Just enough time to go out and make popcorn.
Transformers has teh same issue. Thanks to this web site, I was able to correct the problem. MS tech support has no clue! They wanted to charge me $20 to ship a warranted product back to them to fix. Thanks to whom ever thought of this. Maybe they should work for MS.
Yeah I picked up Transformers this week and watched it this morning. I’m not a big fan of all these new movies needing cookie downloads. I’m not going to pull my wireless adapter just to watch a movie.
