Rumor Mill: Sony’s $399 PS3 confirmed by Best Buy?

PS3 ImageOne of our readers sent us this tip via Engadget, thanks to Fragloser.

Looks like someone has uncovered a few Best Buy documents showing a $399 Playstation 3 with a 40GB HDD and Spiderman 3 bundle with an “In Stock Date” of October 28. Why pick Spider Man 3, go with 300!

Although these documents look real enough they are still very much a rumor at this point, but keep your eyes pealed as Sony might be looking to drop a new bundle as a surprise to us all. No official street date has been named, but lets see what else Best Buy lets out of the bag.

Hit the jump for the documents, what do you think?

I’d still like to know what got taken out of the cheaper PS3. We’ve heard no BC, no WiFi, no memory card readers, and only 2 USB slots. It’s all speculation until we hear official word from Sony

I’m not sure why they would limit backwards compatibility, since it runs off of software now anyways. I would expect no memory card readers, since not that many people use them anyways (there are still a few though). I would also expect no wi-fi to cut the prices.

This competition is great. Now MS will be “forced” to release a 400-450 dollar 360 with HD-DVD integrated (hopefully?) and maybe Wi-Fi as well? That would make the 360 a clear buy, but PS3 is getting some really awesome games.

are you here to play games or watch movies, cause if your here to watch hd movies then your not a gamer correct? why worry about such things as wii fii and hd movie capability, with games like half life 2 cod 4 and halo 3, hahah playstation who? wait till the new elite 360 falcon comes out with those new 65nm chips, then well see how playstation grumbles the bottom of the pit,, talk all the smack ya want about microsoft and 360’s, but when it comes down to it we know who wins

If you seriously work for GamePro, I feel sorry for that organization. Thanks for playing. You’re the first person to make the ban list. Congratulations

wow I caught this argument late and for that I apologize to our readers.

@ghostlymatt - you truly are a moron and I hope that you really are from Gamepro becasue you just discredited an entire publication. If you do work for them I am sure that cleaning the toilets and changing out urinal cakes must be a satisfying job. Welcome to the land of BAN, population you! NOw take your caps and sit in a corner while normal adults have conversation.

Nice…. I’ve been away a few days myself, and am now just catching up…

…and you know that douche doesn’t work for Gamepro, he’s probably some obnoxious 12-year old with no friends…

@ghostly, I hope you make real good friends with your right hand, because with an attitude like that you’re gonna be a virgin for a loooooooong time…

Heh, I knew he was going to get banned sooner or later.

Sure, if you are a gamer, you don’t need to have Blue-Ray, but Wi-Fi is very helpful. Many of my friends use Wi-Fi to connect their 360’s and they have to pay an extra $100 to do it. On the other hand, watching movies really isn’t that necassary.

Still ghostly, I don’t know why you used caps so much, since it didn’t get your point across any better. Oh, and I can tell you he doesn’t work for gamepro because he lack of knowledge about IP Bans.

@GameHard: When you register with a IP provider such as comcast, you are assigned your own unique IP. For example, my IP is 68.80.***.***. However, if you look on networks, each computer on a network is assigned its own IP. For example, one could be 192.168.0.X (depending on the computer it can go from 1-99 or higher). So when they ban your IP from a server, you are really locked out unless you go to a cyber-cafe, or a friends house to access the site again.

    Hi everyone–

I’m the Editorial Director at GamePro, and I can say with certainty that GhostlyMatty is most decidedly *not* a GamePro employee. Never has been — certainly never will be.
