I recently wrote an article in regards to Clive Barker’s Jericho getting a new demo for Xbox Live today and coming for PS3 on October 4th. I got this reply back:
From reader SixAxis:
Maybe i had a bad day. but im sick of waiting when good games/ demos will be released. Why not today. Why is it october 4th. i just want to know the reason. “PS3 owner don’t despare as the Sony clan will also be graced with a PSN demo on October 4th. So what are you waiting for? Go download now!”
what, are u f..ng kidding me “go download now”. only those words alone make me wanna throw my ps3 out of the god damn window. J just… cant see a single good game to be released before November, and i mean theres a long way to go. Pro Street,Uncharted, UT III, Army of two, Assassins creed, Half life 2,COD 4, Haze, Kane and Lynch etc. Maybe those companys could just cancel these games, then its like happy christmas ps3 owners.
I have to say that this reader although misplacing his rage against me, makes a valid point and one that I have been wondering about for the last few months since the PSN began to get demos. Why is it Sony PS3 owners must wait like second-class citizens a few days while the Xbox 360 folks bask in the joy of on time demos. I know a lot of people will say that the PSN is only updated on Thursday and that is the main reason, but that reason stinks! The Jericho demo is being released on a Thursday yet PS3 owners will have to sit tight and wait until next week to see what everything is all about.
Why do demos take longer to release on one platform than another, the closest release was the Puzzle Fighter release on both consoles and even then the PSN was snubbed by a day or so. So I agree with ya SixAxis and implore Sony to give us a better reason for getting screwed? Also why are all games being delayed until post November, PS3 owners have nothing to do once they get past Heavenly Sword, give up some titles or I think SixAxis like others may snap.

I showed my thoughts on the network, I stated if we keep getting 3-5 demos a week, it will be good. But not only on Thursdays, we should get updates whenever it’s ready. I agree, why the hell do we have to wait? I also stated:
“Why do we constantly always get demos AFTER Live gets them? Why must the owners of the PlayStation 3 live like they are nobles and Xbox 360 owners live like they are the kings? Get developers to get them to us at the same time.”
As you can see, I’m also a frustrated PlayStation 3 owner.
Perhaps if you were better informed it would lead to less rage??? Because the Jericho demo is currently available for the PS3 too.
There are good games coming out for the PS3 before November. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction will probably be among the best reviewed games of the year. Folklore is also a very nice game; I’ve really enjoyed the demo. Eye of Judgment looks very clever. Guitar Hero III will be awesome. There will also be some nice sports games and more Oblivion gameplay for RPG fans. And then there will be too many games to know what to do with through November. And even better games will be out early next year, such as Metal Gear Solid 4 and GTA IV. Why so negative?
I agree with alan. The ps3 has alot over (good) games comming out next month for the ps3. And an even better looking november. So why cry about getting demo’s a week later or so? So stop crying and wait for it! its not like its gonna launch like a month from xbox lives demo launch so shut up, be patient. Its not that big of a deal!
Me too , I agree with alan , there are too many games coming this year & some of them are exclusives .. so be patient & go buy FIFA08 , enjoy it until the next month
I love my Ps3 and really looking foward to the next few months, so i made it this far so im sure i can wait a little longer, buy why the hell is stranglehold being delayed when the freakin 360 has it. Im sure theres a reason but cmon this sucks i played and loved heavenly sword but it only took two days to finish. But i dont mind this cuz it was such a pleaseure to play i can replay it but i cant keep it up forever.
By they way im in Australia so maybe its out else where.
I agree with Alan as well, having less demos doesnt really mean the end of the world, its still not been one year for the PS3 yet, I takes time on a new hardware console for things to come sooner, just wait a few more months, demos will start coming sooner and so will alot of games which are already coming out this Fall.
You get what you pay for. In this case, free online service. Would you feel better if Sony charged you 50 bucks and you got the demo 2 days earlier?
Does it suck to get a demo a week after the 360 got it? Sure it does. But as long as the PS3 gets multiplat game demos reasonably close to when they drop on the 360 I have no problem with it. I’d rather keep the free service and wait a lil bit for the demo.
Wow, Sony is finally getting is act together and people are still not happy. Over the last few weeks, we have been getting 2 or 3 demos every weeks. There’s about 18 games coming out in october, and most people would be happy to get their hands on 3 or 5 of them. Sure enough, most devs are waiting for november because Christmas is still the big “season”. Still, the next couple of months will be the most expensive ever for me since I want at least 5 to 8 titles in those two months alone. How rich are you? As long as I can get a demo one week before a title comes out, I’m quite happy!!!
I really don’t understand how anyone is frustrated, unless the writer is in the EU region because they get everything late. As a few people noted the Jericho demo is up now. I would like to see updates one more days then just Thursday but I have a feeling that it has to do with content and the publishers themselves. A lot of people think Sony is doing everything wrong but I don’t think it’s their fault that games are continuously delayed. I think it’s completely ludicrous that Stanglehold has been delayed as long as it has, but where does the blame truly go? If your so upset about delays and such then you need to voice your concern to the publishers and Sony if neccessary but don’t lose confidence or become overly frustrated that you chose a PS3 because it will pay off in the end, much more than any system on the market, the PS3 will give you your money’s worth and then some.
Makidian is right it wont be long till we will be laughing with all the PS3 exclusive games. But iam in the EU region so i can only download free things from my American account i set up. Its is pretty sweet that i can get away wtih that tho.
Anyway Warhawk is also damm fun, screw halo 2.5 cough i mean halo 3
“I PREFER XBOX LIVE TO THE PSN BECAUSE WITH XBOX LIVE YOU CAN 1. SEND A FRIEND AN INVITE TO PLAY A GAME EVEN IF HES ON A DIFFERENT GAME TO YOU, 2. CHAT TO A FRIEND REGARDLESS WITH GAME HES PLAYING”
Those options aren’t available for the ps3 but if sony wanted them options on the ps3 then all they would have to do is throw that in with an update. FOR FREE! Also the ps3 can handle any map the 360 can handle. Have you heard about Killzone 2’s levels? Well let me inform you. 2GB PER LEVEL! I REPEAT 2 GB PER LEVEL!!!!!11 Can the xbox360 handle that kind of gaming? No! Cuz their devs. are limited 8GB of developing space! Boooo! Ps3 Pwns!
I agree the ps3 is making great strides and is making a big impression with me, bluetooth capability, bu ray, 60 gb HD, PSN is shaping up nicely, built in wifi, etc.
I was expressing the ongoing voive of many gmaers I speak with, that are upset like the guy I quoted.
After XmasPS3 is going to give the other tw consoles a run for their money for sure. The Wii will die out in Norht america unless Smash Bros Brawl is an awesome success. PS3 and xbox 360 will duke it out with GTA.
@scumbag - lol - halo 2,5 comment. i cansee where you ar eoging with that and i think many will agree, also your right having demos a few days later isnt earth shattering for some but it still is an oddity.
As for the Jericho demo it wamade available after the post, and is contradictory to the press releases announcing it next week, blame the game company for reesing bad info to us, sorry bout that ugys
I have to respond to a few things here, first Andrew. I play on PSN all the time, resistance, rainbow six, and warhawk. I have never encountered bad servers. I can honestly tell you that I have NEVER encountered lag. I do own a 360, and I have to say that I remember clearly playing DOA and having lag. Now on to the memory, your absolutely right about the ps3 having 256MB of memory, what you are forgetting though is that it works with two different memory RAMS. To be more exact:
256MB XDR Main RAM @3.2GHz
256MB GDDR3 VRAM @700MHz
So in the end, if you add up both, its 512MB. It uses both RAMS of memory. The xbox has one ram of 512. It doesn’t have a memory problem at all it has the same specs in memory department. In fact the 512 on the xbox is shared with the GPU. The ps3 has it seperately, like regular computers. I dont even know where you got that information from. You can sit here and explain that your not a 360 fanboy, but your post says differently.
Now that im done putting andrew in his place. I agree with SIXAXIS, it’s not about the wait, but rather why the wait. If we were better informed as Hmmmm pointed out. I mean if this is sonys doing this is completely ridiculous, if this is the game developers doing, why? Things need to be asked. I do also agree that there are plenty of games coming out before november. But im tired of this wait, it gets ridiculous.
PS. ANDREW if your going to respond to me, please read up on information. I’d like to talk to someone who actually knows things…Thanks.
Back on topic . . .
The reason PS3 gets most stuff late is not some evil conspiracy, it’s just development resources. By their own admission a lot of developers (most?) are developing the games on the 360 dev kits then porting to PS3 because the Microsoft tools are a lot easier to work with(I can testify to that I am a developer), and were out a year earlier.
You’ll probably find games like Burnout Paradise will probably demo on PSN first because Criterion have stated that the PS3 is their primary platform.
On the memory issue, firstly a “2Gb map” has got nothing to do with memory limits. Secondly the PS3 OS consumes about 90Mb of RAM across both sets (I think they recently reduced it to about 70, while the 360 OS footprint is only 32Mb. the notable difference between the Main RAM and Video RAM is that the Video RAM is the maximum “what you can see”.
In other words on the PS3 in any one scene on screen you could never have more than 256Mb of assets. By comparison The 360 can use almost it’s entire RAM for onscreen assets, so with OS and 70Mb for game data, you could have 400Mb of “stuff” onscreen.
But the question is not how much, it’s what do you do with it?
Why does Microsoft get the demo’s first?
easy, They pay for it.
That is it!
Microsoft pay big time to get a lead on Sony.
Sure they have more units out there but they have had a two year head start and probably count in the 33% of busted machines they had to replace.
But PS3 is slowly and surely catching up and MS know this.
They pump millions into hyping Halo 3 (I’m not knocking a top notch family friendly fps but that’s all it is really) and have a powerful PR department that constantly spins crap that most online gaming sites buy without a second thought.
Feature for Feature the PS3 delivers more than the Xbox 360 and does it cheaper all in one box. (if you don;t believe me check out independent site http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=522909)
That’s my rant for the day. Basically Sony have mucked up the PS3 launch and are still recovering from it. Only now are they plugging everything else it can do with a Uk wide tour lined up.
http://psplaytime.blogspot.com
@Andrew, dude, seriously, if you can afford a Xbox 360, you can also afford a keyboard with a working Caps Lock key.
As for servers, M$ charges for servers that crash when their AAA Halo3 comes out, yeah great servers. :/
PSN’s servers are free and have given me minimal problem playing games like Warhawk.
Demos being delayed sucks, but if the platform they started programming for first was for the 360 (since it’s a pay service, they probably get some kind of cut for giving them demos first, and I think it also makes the devs work on the 360 version first) then PS3 owners will have to wait. And a week or so really isn’t that bad. Lucky for me I have every console.
What has impressed me the most from Sony is how often they release their firmware updates. Look at Lair for example. People complained about the controls and within days a patch was out that supposedly addressed some of the issues (as opposed to 2k games where you have working games, they release a patch and make the title uplayable).
And we should enjoy the free PSN while it lasts, because I wouldn’t be surprised if they start charging a subscription fee eventually.
If Andrew is indicative of the type of “friend” I might meet on XBL, I’ll just start patting myself on the back for my PS3 purchase now.
Seriously people. Punctuation isn’t hard to use. I’m aiming this at the same person who can’t figure out how to turn off the fucking caps lock
@Gunmetal - you know what? I would have to say by far, the people I’ve encountered on the PSN have been friendlier than those on Xbox Live. It haven’t been called any racial slurs in any games I’ve played (and I haven’t had any lag either)
Andrew why are you trying to clown on the game resistance’s graphics? Its one of the best graphical games that released with the ps3 at launch. I’m tired of you crying about ps3 having bad servers, cuz i just think you’re getting it twisted with 360 fanboys cuz they don’t know nothing about ps3 servers and they say everything assumed. I think that 360 fanboys assume that ps3’s online service sucks because they have to pay and ps3 owners don’t…let me inform you.. I have had NO server problems ONCE since i’ve had the ps3! Ofcourse Madden 08 lagged online but now its doing great, besides, even xbox live has problems with its severs online hence the HALO 3 launch. And don’t even talk about the ps3 losing exclusives cuz didn’t 360 lose exclusives like HAZE???? AND UT 3????? which are going to be BIG titles for the holidays!
The PSN, or the PS3 for that matter, don’t need people like you on it Mr. Andrew. And like everyone else has noticed, I don’t think caps locking your entire comment is helping your arguments. I really don’t think that you own both systems either because you would know that the graphics of Resistance far outdo anything that was launched with the 360. And you shouldn’t try and play Warhawk with a 56k connection, oh that’s right you probably can’t. And if you can’t join a game in five minutes it times out, if it doesn’t do that you can join one of the other 18,000 games that are going on during peak hours. Don’t be a fool and try to spread fud here , I don’t think it will work.
@andrew - monthly service charges for Home? I’d love to know where you got that information, because I get mine directly from Sony. Home and the PSN will continue to be free for the life of the PS3. There are no plans to charge for any of it. Any Sony will NOT be charging to videos on Home either. You can buy new clothes and furniture, but you don’t pay for videos.
As for Resistance, I play on a 50″ 1080p set and it looks pretty damn good, definitely better than any of the launch titles from the Xbox 360 (and I did own every single launch title from the 360).
I don’t even understand why you own a PS3 Andrew, if all you do is bash it and praise your 360 then what is the point of owning one? You are sorely misinformed such as most people are that the PS3 is failing, it’s been out ten months, and they have met their worldwide shipment target of 5-6mil, so how is it failing? You must be blind if you think that Resistance’s graphics are bad, you probably thought Kameo was the best launch game ever for the 360 if you say the RFoM graphics are bad. Why don’t you trade in your PS3 for a Wii(if you don’t already have one) and then you can be happy with what you have.
I mean if you really want to get into it about games you must realize that there have only been maybe a handful of good and worthwhile 360 games that have come out amongst the hundred(estimate) or so games that have come out for the 360. And if you want to say that multiplatform games have been better on the Xbox then you must realize that it’s because of the devs not Sony. And Sony can put as many free movies as they want through home because they own movie studios. C’mon do you really know what your talking about or are you just trying to make your point with false and biased information? The Cell processor hasn’t been fully utilized because it’s a complex thing. The 360 is already running at about 90% percent of it’s capabilities, by the time Gears of War 2 comes out it will be running at max. And I hope you like swapping disc because there’s gonna be a lot of games coming out that run off two, and your precious graphics will suffer because of that. Killzone 2 has the most complex lighting and shading of any game coming out, better than dare I say Halo 3(which is really good). If you can’t find a game for the PS3 whether on disc or the PSN, then you nor anyone else for that matter, should not only not own a PS3, but any system because you can’t be pleased.
Go ahead and run down a list of games that the 360 has that is going to really give the PS3 a run for it’s money because now that Halo 3 is out there won’t be many. In fact let me do it: Mass Effect(Looks Great), Gears 2(will be good if they make it longer), Alan Wake(could go multi), Halo Wars(do you play RTS games? How many do you think will?), Bioshock(already out but could go multi, top selling game and Take2 could use the money), Ninja Gaiden 2(Looks awesome but isn’t a system seller most people that will buy it already own a 360), Lost Odyssey(Blue Dragon and other RPG’s don’t move systems this won’t either), Infinite Undiscovery(Square kept the rights if it doesn’t sell well guess where it will end up). That’s all I have for now. I would go through the list of PS3 games but the system sellers are MGS4 and FFXIII and as soon as the demo’s come out and release dates are announced you can epect PS3’s to sell better because some people have to wait for flagship titles before they buy. The only reason 360 sales have picked up is because of Halo 3, that will fade before Christmas, They missed their target of 12mil for the year end, their first quarter will be good because of Halo 3. Oh and Microsoft is more debt now than Sony, RRoD cost them another billion or were you sleeping during E3, which put them almost 2 billion back in debt(around 1.8 I think). And the PSN and online play have been free for a year and Home has no indication of being a pay service but I would gladly pay for an online experience as robust as Home.
And to the person wondering about Stranglehold’s delay, I think it was to integrate rumble and not have to fight Halo 3 for day one sales. And I would expect a rumble controller packed into and being sold seperately by the Christmas rolls in regardless of what they said at TGS. I am done with my rant, sorry if it was too long.
Okay, I am going to say a few unbiased things here very quickly.
While PS3 may be getting FFXIII (Love the FF series), the 360 is going to be getting Lost Odyssey, which is being developed by one of Square Enix’s heads that MS hired. I have been reading up a lot on Lost Odyssey, and I feel it will really compete against FF. Now I know that many of you guys are going to complain about the 4 DVD’s that it uses. However, we were first introduced to multiple CD’s by Sony, and no one seemed to mind at all with FF, since you only change the CD maybe every 10 hours of gameplay, or once in a few days (I do that anyways).
“Have you heard about Killzone 2’s levels? Well let me inform you. 2GB PER LEVEL! I REPEAT 2 GB PER LEVEL!!!!!11 Can the xbox360 handle that kind of gaming? No! Cuz their devs. are limited 8GB of developing space! Boooo! Ps3 Pwns!”
C’mon Jeffery, the PS3 holds more space which is good, but you have to realize the other side of the story. And its pretty immature to end with “Boooo! Ps3 Pwns!” by the way. Alright, when Xbox 360 devs make their games, they just have to use a better compression format to fit all the information on a DVD. When Dev’s develop on the PS3 though, they don’t have to use all that compression which makes the game effectively take up more space on the CD. The advantage Blue-Ray has is that it can hold more textures, and also hold more CG sections of games. However, if someone is developing on PS3 and gets lazy, load times get very long because stuff isn’t compressed well enough, so it has to scan for more on the DVD. I do agree that PS3 has the advantage though on the Blue-ray.
Finally: I believe that most people say Sony servers suck is because the problems that PS2 online had (it was horrible). I know that Sony lost my sale with the PS3 because of that, but now that I read about it, Sony has a comparable online system. I still prefer live though because of the very well integrated friends system.
Also: I know this may not sound like a huge difference, but the PS3 uses more RAM for the “dashboard” which removes RAM available for games. Not a huge problem but the 360 uses less.
Both consoles have their advantages and disadvantages, and I’m going to leave it at that, no one can say one system is better purely on hardware/software, but just on opinion.
Actually Lost Odyssey is being developed by Mistwalker which was formed by Sakaguchi who no longer works for SE, he left awhile ago. He won’t make games for the PS3 because he doesn’t/didn’t like Ken Kutaragi not because of a system preference. And while Lost Odyssey may be a great game, and I believe it will be, Mistwalker also made Blue Dragon which is an excellent game, but nobody really cares, and it’s sales express that. There are 360 owners that will complain all day long about not having RPG’s but they don’t sell on the 360. Eternal Sonata has gotten high marks and it won’t sell much either, but the PS3 is getting it next year with a few more features. It will sell better on the PS3. People can discuss the RAM features of each system as much as they want but it’s a moot point. At this point it doesn’t really matter. How much of the 360’s ful power do you think Halo 3 uses, like 90%, that means that the Xbox 360 is already reaching it’s full potential after 2 years of release, and your higher profile games will be using that, Mass Effect for example. The PS3 is probably using 25% for Heavenly Sword and the game is comparable to almost any 360 game released to date. And nobody can say otherwise unless they have played or own the game, which I do, and it’s nothing short of spectacular, it’s only fault from reviews was that it was too short, and I agree it was, I finished it in six hours. That’s Ninja Theories fault though not Sony’s. They chose to make a short game, Sony didn’t. Lair had beautiful graphics and regardless of what reviews and some people may say the controls were fine save a few minor things. Factor 5 stated they wanted the controls to be organic to simulate the feel of flying a dragon, and if you use the controls in a slow and fluid movement, there is no trouble controlling the dragon. I digress, that was a bit off topic. Sony’s online, while not flawless, works just fine for me and everyone I know that has a PS3. Anyone who faults it without having experienced it on more than one occassion, has no basis for argument. The PS2 online may have sucked, I don’t know I never tried it, but that has nothing to do with the PS3, it’s a different console with different game that offer different experiences. I personally think Live is decent but I have never played on it without being verbally assualted for no reason whatsoever. I think the 360 has great games but crappy hardware. If someone thinks that a multiplatform game is better on the 360 then remember who made the game, Madden isn’t good on the PS3 because the devs made it so, Sony nor the PS3 can be faulted when a third party makes a shitty port. If they can’t take the time to learn the system than they aren’t good at their job and need to find another. The games for the PS3 have started to pick up steam and there is no stopping it now. Oh and Final Fantasy XI sold crap for the 360, so I don’t know why anyone should think that XIII will come out for it at all.
See, the problem with these kind of posts is that you are just assuming things. While I will agree that the PS3 has more potential to be a great system. I didn’t want to waste 2 years waiting/buying a console that had subpar games. For me, it was about having a system that I could have fun with right away.
PS3 will be good in the future, but 360 has been better for the past 2 years so thats why I went with the 360.
I’m not trying to bash the PS3 at all, as I do know that it has a lot more features then the 360 if you buy all the accessories for the 360 and that it is more powerful when utilized fully. We will see, no one can do anything besides make predictions.
I’m a 360 owner, and Bungie did a horrible job with Halo 3 by the way. I feel like it really wasn’t a good game graphically or anything, they just poorly developed it because they knew it would sell. If Halo 3 was another game, it would have received poor marks.
Do you own a PS3? Have you played all the games? If you haven’t then you are basing the idea of subpar games on reviews, which isn’t something that should be done when discussing the games for a system. I am not making assumptions and I am certainly not bashing the 360 either, nor was I implying that you were bashing the PS3. I am not assuming anything about the RPG state of the 360 if that is what you are refering to, it’s a fact look it up. Sakaguchi went on record saying that he will not make games for the PS3 because of Kutaragi. I consider that a loss because if Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon came out for the PS3 I would get them both. 360 owners are traditionally and spend more money on shooters, the numbers and stats are there. With an installed user base of 11 or so million and all the people clamoring for RPG’s then the numbers should show that and Blue Dragon should have no trouble moving a couple million copies but it isn’t flying off the shelves and I hate to say it but I doubt that Lost Odyssey will either. It has over twenty hours of cut scene’s. I would kill to have a game with twenty hours of cut scenes, but how many 360 owners will? I have bought and played most of the games for the PS3, and while only a handful of them float my boat, how many games do most people keep on hand at any given time? I only have two right now for my PS3 and they are Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Heavenly sword. I traded in Warhawk(not big on multiplayer just wanted the headset, but an overall great game) Lair(beat it twice, not a lot of replay value) and Resistance(beat it so much I couldn’t play it anymore). I hated Enchanted Arms but I beat it, and Double Agent was awful, those are the only two bad games I have played and disliked. I bought my PS3 to play action/adventure games and RPG’s, and a couple of shooters. I bought my PS3 to wait for Final Fantasy XIII, but that doesn’t mean that I am not going to get other games in between(let’s face it FFXIII ain’t coming out any time soon), and to utilize the features it came with out of the box. I have been regularly replacing DVD collection with Blu-Ray movies and downloading some of the better games that are on the PSN, Super Stardust HD is awesome, and even if it is an older game, I had never played it before. Just because it doesn’t have hundreds of games to choose from doesn’t mean that there aren’t games to be played. The PS3 has been out for almost eleven months so the 360 can only be better than it for that length of time and I have to disagree. I mean how many good games were out during the time the PS3 was not on the market. Five, maybe six games? And even now how many great and almighty games does the 360 have capturing the hearts of millions, maybe ten. So the PS3 has probably five or six must have games since it’s been out, with more coming in the next few months. Ratchet will help move systems, Folklore is simply spectacular, Haze for shooter fans, Uncharted looks incredible, and those are just some of the exclusives until the year end. How do you think Christmas will pan out this year? Bet the 360 and PS3 tie for second, and the Wii stays on top. If they release the 40gig PS3 this year, you should get one, owning your own will change your mind about it not being good right now.
