The next in the series of Reader Reviews comes from Jersey_STi, a good friend of mine. He took on the behemoth that is Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground. Well, the demo for the Xbox 360 that is. Here’s his review:First, off the bat, Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground, is not, and will not be the same as EA’s Skate which is coming out. If you are looking for a skate game that you can turn on and jump right into and feel comfortable playing, Proving Ground is the game to buy. But if you want a challenge and feel as if you are really skating and learn what it is like to actually skate. EA’s Skate is the way to go.With Proving Ground, if you have previously played any Tony Hawk game, then you wont have a problem clicking the buttons and exploring the levels that it has planned out. The few things they seemed to have added in the demo would be the 3 different skating lives you can chose to go into. The First Choice is the “rigger” mode, in which you try and go back to the roots of the older skaters and the skaters who like to make do with what equipment they have and modify their world to have more fun in that area. This is a big change from any other Tony Hawk game because you can actually demolish and add things to each board so that it is more user friendly and you are in essence making the lines in which you want. The second choice is the Career Mode. In the demo you meet Bob Burnquist and he teaches you a new part of the game they added which is the “Nail the Grab” and “Nail the Trick”. It is slightly modified from Tony Hawks Project 8 but a lot better because you tweak, twist, and mess around with grabs, flip tricks, while in the air and more towards your liking. The third choice in the Demo is the “Hardcore” Mode where you go around with Mike Vallely and the way that he likes to skate which is getting big air and protecting your skate spots in the game. In this portion you learn the “Aggrokick” which allows you to skate a lot faster with the push of a button throughout the boards. You have to time this move right or your momentum will slow you right down, right away.As for that quick and to the point review of the demo. The game looks sick and I am looking forward to buying it. If you are a Tony Hawk fan, you will be excited to play this game, because the levels seem to be bigger, the game seems to be more user friendly, the graphics are better, and you most likely will have more free reign and control over the game play so that the game doesn’t control you as much. From a fan who has played every Tony Hawk game, I always get excited to play any TH game that comes out. So this and EA’s skate will give a skate lover and a skateboarding game player a lot to do this Fall.

Write a Comment»I thought it was a great demo. Better tan skates! I love how they let you try all three paths and have free time to use all three, and of course…then repeat haha
They should just give up the TH series. How many have the made now? The last good one was THPS2.
