Interview with Game Developer NinjaBee - Part 2

Ninja BeeHere is the second part of our interview with Brent Fox of Wahoo Studios/NinjaBee where he discusses with us some of his plans for the future as well as his preferences in development medium. He also talks about his thoughts on the PSN and VIrtual console, what is coming next and even a possible exclusive title only discussed with us.

Again we thank Brent and the folks at NinjaBee for the interview and the information. We will keep on the lookout for more great titles from this camp.

- Any plans to develop titles for PSN or Wiiware?

We love Xbox Live Arcade but we are also certainly open to other possibilities. We plan on maintaining our position as a driving force in downloadable console games and we will see where that takes us.

- With Outpost Kaloki, Cloning Clyde and Band of Bugs being critical successes, any plans for sequels?

These universes and game play mechanics are important to us and we certainly plan on revisiting them at some point. One thing is for sure. We don’t want to do a sequel that is just the same game with new levels or a new story. When we make a sequel it will have some significant new features.

- When will Void War come to Xbox 360?

Although we sell Void War on our site and a good friend of ours developed it, it actually isn’t our game, so it’s not really up to us. One of the other challenges we face when choosing which game to make next is that we have a lot of new ideas and it’s usually more appealing to try something new than to work with an older idea.

- Any plans for full retail versions of any your current titles or will you stick to downloadable content?

We talk about stuff like this all the time. The difficult part for us is that it takes a load of cash to get retail game in stores and even more to promote it. We don’t have that kind of money. This means that we need to work with someone who does. Working out the details isn’t simple.

One of the big hurdles in taking our existing games to retail is that we have a tendency to make games that are creative and different from many of the retail titles. This can make it risky and most publishers with money are terrified of taking a risk. At the current cost of developing retail titles, this fear seems justified, but it certainly limits our options.

- What’s coming next?

Coming next is a load of really cool games. We are working on a lot of stuff both for publishers and on some of our own independent games. We get excited just thinking about what we can’t tell you yet. :)

- Any exclusive announcements or details you can give us?

I don’t know if we had planned on announcing it yet but the company CFO had a successful operation and has removed the 6th toe on his right foot. Our discussions are still very preliminary but we are considering basing the hero of a future game on this now homeless toe. We just can’t figure out what to name him.

We haven’t told anyone else about this idea, so it’s definitely exclusive. :)
