The Windows LIVE Skydrive Beta is now open to the public and gives users 500 MB of space to store things. I wonder what the full extent of space will be after the Beta?
Here are some of the features:
*An upgraded look and feel — new graphics to go along with your new features!
*”Also on SkyDrive” — easily get back to the SkyDrives you’ve recently visited
*Thumbnail images — we heard you loud and clear, and now you can see thumbnails of your image files
*Drag and drop your files — sick of our five-at-a-time upload limit? Drag and drop your files right onto your SkyDrive
*Embed your stuff anywhere — with just a few clicks, post your files and folders anywhere you can post html
From Major Nelson:
Need a place to store your stuff ‘in the cloud’ ? Sign up for the Windows Live SkyDrive Beta that was just opened to the public. This will give you 500 MB of storage that you can access anytime, from anywhere you have a PC. It could come in handy if you are on the run or traveling all the time. It has the option to store files available to everyone, just friends or only yourself.

Not exactly a new idea, but Microsoft is definitely banking on it. 500 gigs of online storage could be very nice to have, but there’s always the worry of uptime and data loss since the data isn’t directly in your control. It’s not something i would put my entire hard drive on (it wouldn’t fit anyway) and then consider it safe….yet.
Oh god I misread. its 500 MEGAbytes. Oh well.
Yeah XiD… 500GB would be an insane amount of online storage to offer people. 500MB is a lot more than what you get with other services, especially .Mac which only gives you 10MB.
Well don’t forget that gmail gives each user nearly 3 gigs of storage space without problem. Things are getting larger in today’s day, so I just expected the storage size to be larger -.-
Well keep i mind it is a beta right now, who knnows what hte ultimate size will be. Although 500 gig would be pretty impressive, screw hard drives!
