Peter Molyneux Throws Down the Gauntlet

Peter Molyneux

Peter Molyneux has always been outspoken, but this is surprising. In an interview with Kikizo, he says that “most role playing games are shit!” Ummm, right.

He went on to trash Oblivion, one of the highest rated RPG’s of recent past.

Oblivion was a great game, but the combat was rubbish; we all talked about it being rubbish.

Someone needs to slap Peter silly. His idea of great combat for Fable 2 is a single button for all combat moves. He says that consumers actually prefer to mash buttons.

You would think button mashing would be one thing I’d want to get rid of, but I don’t. For some people, it’s what they want to do.

Can I get a double of whatever he’s drinking? For a man who’s so far behind on his game, I don’t think he’s in a place to be calling everyone else out.

HIs comment about button mashing is awesome! Who likes to button mash, that kind of game gets repitive quickly just look at State of Emergency, it was fun for the first hour or so and then after that it was just the same thing over and over.

Yeah, first he needs to actually release his game before talking smack about others.

I’m really looking forward to Fable 2, probably b/c Fable 1 had so much potential. Button mashing does get repetitive, but in rare cases it can be fun. Who knows, Fable 2 button mashing might be fun.

And yay for The Sandman comics!

What a genius. Berate other games that have lots of fans when your bringing out sequel of his game that was just plan weak. Fable 2 just fell off my list of interested games.

PS Peter, I liked the idea that Oblivion’s combat system used, it could have been a better but it was a nice step in the right direction.

I am interested in Fable 2, but how dare the man say Oblivion’s fighting was rubbish. There is a reason it has been so highly rated & so numerously bought.

I agree, I’m a fan of Oblivion, and I hate “button mashing” games. I prefer something that requires a bit of skill. All button mashers do is frustrate me when I’m forced to stop playing because of thumb cramps…

I wouldnt call Oblivion’s fighting rubbish, but it wasn’t anything special. It was basically the same junk from Morrowind, just updated. And it sold so much b/c there was pretty much nothing else on the 360. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Oblivion, but I think he has the right to say its combat wasn’t the best. Dude is a video game genius. Probably shouldn’t have said “rubbish”, but it definitely wasn’t the funnest combat around.

God of War was basically a button-masher, but that game was still fun as hell. I’m not entirely sure how Fable 2’s combat is going to work, but since Peter Molyneux is heading it, it’ll be at least as fun as Oblivion’s.

Oblivion’s fighting was pretty damn weak…take a look at Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, and thats what it COULD have been.

Never played fable, so I can’t really comment.
