Calling all mathematicians and/or nerds out there, the public needs your help. Above is a Quantum Mechanic equation, namely Schrodinger’s Equation. I know this because I took a year of Advanced Physical Chemistry in Graduate school. Sweet, I know. Bungie posted this equation recently on a post and people are speculating over what it means.
You have to understand, Quantum Mechanics is math with no numbers so to speak. Symbols and an expressions all have values, but are computed to either make the function reappear, equal to zero, or one.
Schrodinger means this: It is a function that allows for the perservation of eigeninformation, or rather, complex (think mathematical imaginary, not imaginary as in fake) wave formulas from an n-dimensional space to another n-dimensional space…the wave being described is the probability complex that describes the ground state of a certain physical system…I’m thinking from a traditional viewpoint of the wavefunction as the lowest energy orbitals.
To make it simple:
Psi bar null = transferring a time-independent waveform from dimension to dimension.
So what is the point? This could be a major plot spoiler. This is my theory:
I do believe an Eigen function once simplified will get the original function back at the beginning, having a distinct Eigen value. Ergo, is it possible that this could be something of a normalization or dare I say orthogonal, where you will get zero? It would make sense if the last Halo ring or rings opens. Everything would be reduced to nothing, or perhaps zero. It could also mean that it is way that the Forerunners transferred their knowledge from that Ark thing and this equation could be how they did it.
OR…. Schrodinger’s birthday is on August 12…. The day a new Beta server opens…
The sole fact these guys want to incorporate quantum mechanics into Halo 3 scares me to death.

So apparantly Schrodinger did some thought experiments with a cat (not a real cat). If the cat is put into a box in isolation (decoherence) and fed poison, the cat’s position on quantum space can only be said to be combination of possible rest states (eigenstates), because to find out it’s exact state would require the observer to interfere with the experiment. So in layman’s terms, the cat is somewhere between alive and dead, or both.
Now how does this fit into Halo? Well, one thought that has been proposed would be surrounding Master Chief. He’s been in isolation inside his MJOLNIR Mark V armor suit for the extent we’ve seen him throughout the games. Because he’s been in isolation, we don’t know what sort of state he’s in.
Another theory involves Cortana. Since she could be imprisoned by the Gravemind, we don’t know what her state is, whether with or against Master Chief.
These are just some thoughts, I could be way off base.
Originally when I saw the equation and saw other equations that used this equation in quantum physics I thought it might involve time travel. The equation seems incomplete and I wonder if it actually is an example of Schrödinger’s equation. Most of his equations use Newtons second law which states f=ma which is why I thought time travel because Einstein theorized that if you could travel faster than the speed of light, or bend a beam of light in a complete circle you would be able to see the past and since the equation seems different than most of the Schrödinger’s equations and also incomplete maybe it’s trying to hypothesize time travel.
Although my second thought after reading about the Dirac equations and Klein-Gordon equation which are loosely based on Schrödinger’s equation, I’m thinking its the equation for a super-weapon. It may part of the equation that show how the Halo’s work, and how they are able to take protons and photons and use them to destroy planets. will post with more ideas

It would make a lot of sense that this would explain how the Halo’s work.

My initial thought after reading Dawg’s comment was that when the Halos are fired, time bends itself back to a time when the Flood are still in containment. Wouldn’t it be mind-altering if Halo 3 (once completing it) sent you back in time to the first Halo and made available content to download for Halo:CE so that you play through the original game with all new objectives? Say you and Cortana end up on Halo 04 just after the escape pod crashed, but knowing everything that happened in Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3, and as such you go through all the levels trying to stop the Covenant from unlocking the sealed Flood containment. That would be pretty inventive gameplay! The cycle comes to a close at the beginning.
Steve - very interesting theory. That would be very very cool. What if you got sent back towards the end of the game in Halo 3, and that was your final mission… to stop the Flood containment from ever being opened to save the world.

Just a thought. Could it be that some genious at Bungie thought about using this formula of quantum mechanics as a code for their roadmap?
It could be just for the story, because it was released in relation to the Halo universe. But many sophisticated minds in the past thought far ahead of their current projects and put thought into some kind of code that is nearly impossible to interpret, in order to relay information.
“Symbols and expressions all have values” <– this tells me that they might have used this formula to tell a story, or as a well-thought-out way to map their projects in the future, AFTER halo, or prior to it. Perhaps not even within the Halo universe.
Just a thought, I like to speculate.
The answer to the equation is In three parts depending on how you choose to explain it. Obviously it’s speaking of how the universe before it began existed. The two symbols before the equals sign talk about two force of the same nature in different polaritys if you will. One negative one positive, both existing with inifinite energy causing eachother to cancel out the need for a manifestation of what we will call the universe. Now the need for a square root is the factor of dividiing the all from the nothing allowing for a suspension of energy to take place and constantly stay suspended obviously this is understandble because of the -z you see. After the parenthesis or whatever you wanna call it. Talks about how the cycle of energy will cause the beginning to be likewise to the end. It goes on to explain how the end is in the beginng and that the beginning of the universe will build to the state of being able to become infinite energy or go back to the way it was. Hence the A. But because of this equation how it goes about things. There will obviously be a point where even though the end is happening, there is a new beginning and a need for extended suspension of matter or energy existing in matter. Then as the beginning or what is before the beginning of the universe, can now be within the universe. Because obviously the need for suspension of a energy like this, requires a infinite yet non conflicting energy. So you have the the three basic forces in the most purest form sustaining the universe as well as interacting. Obviously though this is only possible because of light and it allows for a transfer of infinite energy into waves if you will. So as you know light is really all the colors but since you see them all at once it appears as colorless. So light allows for pure energy from beyond the universe as we know it to be transfer and interact within area where everything is not pure and such.. So as the beginning will no doubt come back to the end, they will still be seperate from total union of being. Though because they have the ability to co-exist with the energy. Now you will see they will go down a road of going back to the before to a pure state of being. Then there wont be a paradox of unequal transfer of energy when everything folds back to nothing. This is also obvious due to the first two symbols before the equal sign. To go back to nothing you must be able to co-exist stabily with it. So yes there you go. Dont ask me to explain all the symbols and such. Atleast not now, I am tired and dont wanna go into details.

there are a few missed points in it. nothing that isnt salvagable. They still go with what I said but theres a bit of minor details that I forgot to mention. such as how the negative forces and positive forces exist as different energies to balance out the infinite energy. also you could see that part where -z is a seperate piece of the equation. Due too you can keep the first part of the equation as is and it would explain how the energy infinitley existed. But also it goes to say that in a way be impossible because that is an equation to explain how the forces manifested. But in reality if you were too try to explain them without our universes laws in order. You would have a blank space there. Because that equation is just one of the million possibilities inside the manifested reality or unmanifested.
