Just got my hands on a copy of Overlord yesterday for the Xbox 360 and had a chance to put a couple of hours in and get a good taste of the game beyond what I had played in the demo. The game is surprisingly open ended in that you can killl innocent people or choose to spare them or even come back later and irradicate them. You are the Overlord and you make the calls.
I got 15 minions right now, which sounds like a lot of minions but you can always use more. The minions are pretty cool in that they sack and pillage for you, but also auto equip any items that they may find along the way, this is great so that you don’t have to worry about equipping each lil guy. I also learned that there are different types of minions, brown, red, blue and green, each with their own attributes. Brown minions are your basic fighters, red minions are like archers shooting fire balls, green are your stealth minions and blue are your healing minions.
The different minions will play different roles in solving different puzzles to progress through levels and you can take control of the different colors and make them do separate actions by using the RB button. The charm of this game will win you over quickly and the demo that is available is a nice way to give you a feel for the game, the demo is actually the first level of the game/ tutorial.
I am looking forward to this title and playing it more in depth to build a legion of minions. Overlord looks so far to be great fun and even has online modes, which i will explore further, a full review to come shortly.
