One of the reasons Sony stated for releasing the 80GB PS3 is to add more room for people to download high definition movies and TV shows. We all knew something of the sort was coming, but I expected a big announcement, not just a short fleeting line in a press release.
However you look at it, this could be even better than the Video Marketplace on the Xbox 360, as Sony owns and controls a large portion of Hollywood movie studios. The library Sony could offer is enormous, and it would almost make the PS3 vs. Xbox 360 download services another format war similar to Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD.
Expect more details, with launch date, coming this Wednesday at Sony’s E3 press event. Thankfully, this will have to signify a re-haul of the PlayStation Store, which will no doubt make it easier to navigate.
