Take that Microsoft. Sony Computer Entertainment America President, Jack Tretton (that’s a lot of capitalized words), took a stab at Microsoft in the latest issue of PSM magazine.
“We have a very different approach to exclusives than some of our competitors. We don’t buy exclusivity. We don’t fund development. We don’t, for lack of a better term, bribe somebody to only do a game on our platform. We earn it…”
Ouch. We’ve all read the reports, so it’s not that far off the truth either. We know Microsoft paid $50 million to get exclusive GTA4 episodic content. I have to say, I do agree with Jack Tretton here. Don’t just throw cash around to get your way. While saying that, Sony needs to do a LOT more to “earn” some games for the PS3.
Tretton went on to say:
“Microsoft is too dependent on the third-party community, and Nintendo is too depended on first-party. We like to feel that we got a pretty good mix.”
I think he’s right here too. It’s not very often I think someone from Sony makes a statement that’s almost dead on. It must be the twilight zone.
