Oh how the PR spins fly. Dean Takahashi of the San Jose Mercury News recently grilled Todd Holmdahl, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of Gaming and Xbox Products Group, about all the hardware issues surrounding the Xbox 360.
Surprisingly to no one, Microsoft acts like nothing is going on. Holmdahl was pressed time and time again by Takahashi, but wouldn’t budge from his crystal palace.
When asked in business terms if a high defect rate would hurt the company’s bottom line, Holmdahl flat out denied that there’s any problem. “I would say we don’t have a high defect rate,” he said. “The vast majority of people are really excited about their product, and that we are targeting profitability for next year.”
Right. There’s no high defect rate. That’s why I’m on my 8th Xbox 360 since launch, and over 75% of people I’ve spoke with are at least on their 2nd box. Dean Takahashi should have just smacked the guy in the side of the head.

RECALL!!! Microsoft should be forced to recall their crappy hardware!!
What a crock….
I’ve been relatively lucky (knocks on wood)… I’ve had my 360 since September, and I’ve gotten a few HD errors, disc read errors, red ring of death, etc. but nothing that shutting it off (sometimes several times in a row) and/or unplugging and re-plugging stuff hasn’t corrected.
What really irks me is the fact that I’m satisfied with this performance in comparison to all the people who have had more severe problems… I do not know of 1 single person who has truly had zero problems with the console. If there were truly “no problems” with the 360, and I was the only person I knew that had these issues, you can bet your a$$ I would have brought it back the very first time I had the problem… never mind the 40 or 50 times since…. :-{
I want to start a campaign for a Linux based console!! Who’s with me?
Hey, where’s my Gravitar?
please, tell me. Did you actually except the makers of Windows to make a system that was flawless? Look at Windows 95, ME, XP(before SP2) and Vista.. no surprise to me.
The only problem with mine is that when its standing up the disc tray don’t open it ticks me off!!
If there was a campaign to have everyone tea-bag this guy for every system that failed, it would make the boston tea party look like House Party 3.
I have a ps2 and I must say i am content with it is a reliable and convenient system I dont understand the phetish of america where we must dish out $500 at a time plesae our selves thats I went with the ps2 its a fraction of the cost of the 360 and has wide variety of games while as the 360 only has halo3 guitar hero 3 and madden it is simply an expensive continuation of the original xbox and if your really desperate on price you can a gamecube used for $40. thats all I got go ahead those microsoft liars 400$ ITS YOUR MONEY BE WISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel you i’m on my 7th xbox since luanch. My 1st system ate my disks up wich i couldn’t get replaced not only is microsoft hurting themselves but there consumers as well, maybe they should take tips from sony and nintendo on how to make a system without defects then telling everyone that there is no major defect rate!
