Xbox 360 120GB Hard Drive Transfer Issues

Xbox 360 HDD Transfer Kit Image

So here’s a nice little problem with the transfer process for the 120GB hard drive on the Xbox 360 (thank you to a friend who lent me his transfer cable). While transferring data, if you disconnect anything, the process stops and dumps you back to the dashboard. This includes HDMI handshaking when using the Elite.. So if you change the input on your TV or turn off your TV, the process stops. I found out the hard way after an hour of watching some crap on my DVR.

I guess I’ll have to switch over to component video while I’m transferring the data over, so I don’t have to leave the TV sitting with a nice static image for an hour.

Hey Microsoft… can you please make some of these processes easier?

  3. @MEGA MAN… Where do I begin…

First off, caps lock is for dumb asses. You must fit into that category.

Second, Hooked on Phonics might help with some of that spelling and grammar. Proper sentences do help people understand your point, which is pretty hard to grasp given your writing style.

Third, no one ever said any system was perfect. Everything has flaws, and if you take a look, we’ve pointed out many flaws in every system.

Lastly, you seem to be a blatant Microsoft fanboy. Fanboys are annoying.

Thanks for playing. Remember to get your pets spayed and neutered.

Stop with the crying already. mega mans point is easily seen. Idon’t see this as being a flaw at all. What retard unplugs anything while transferring data? What a lame thing to write about and waste my time. FANBOY!

  5. Did I say I unplugged something? No. When you change your TV to a different input, it changes the handshaking on HDMI, which makes the Xbox 360 think you unplugged the HDMI cable. This is an issue with the Xbox 360.

If you easily see Mega Man’s point, I commend you. I had to read his comment 3 times to even understand what he was trying to say.

And calling me a fanboy is the furthest thing from the truth. I point out the pros and cons of every console, and this time I’m pointing out a con. If I was a Microsoft hater, why would I have purchased an Elite?

I agree, stop crying. So what if it dumped your transfer. So what if you couldn’t watch tv for a few hours while you transfered your files. The transfer only has to be done once or in your case twice. Maybe if you would have checked the progress a few minutes into this you would not have wasted a precious extra hour of your life. My Microsoft instructions didn’t say I could watch tv while I waited so I just left thing the way they where and had no problems. Oh by the way I also understood Mega Man’s post the first time thru. Maybe you have a comprehension problem. Food for thought.

    Nice play Foredeath.

“Did I say I unplugged something?”
I guess not you actually saied “if you disconnect anything”

  9. Has anyone ever heard of a monroe transfer?? http://www.urbandictionary.com and check it out.

  10. darkane

Why does this surprise anyone? What happens when you’re saving something or loading something to/from the hard drive? You get a big message that pops up on screen saying “do not remove anything or turn off the console”. An dit’s not jsut xbox that does it. Why would this be any different? DUH!

  11. Wow!!! I never knew what a monroe transfer was, now I can die a happy man!!!

Dude, I use HDMI and I turned off my tv while the transfer process was going and left the room and waited for the process to finish. I came back periodically to check on it, meaning I turned the tv on and off a series of times within the hour it takes to transfer and nothing like that happened to me.

  13. dude, i am using the 120 HDD with data transfer cable and they work perfectly. i buy both of them at ishopvideogame so highly recommended!
