We’ve had numerous reports coming in of users getting 3 red lights on their brand new Elite consoles this morning. While this is a daily occurrence with 360 Premium and Core systems, we thought Microsoft would have had a better handle on the situation with the Elite.
We’ve all seen the pictures of the motherboard changes. I assumed that these would protect the console better from heat and such to make sure less consoles would die. But alas, no. Microsoft has introduced another new product that is failing at a higher than normal rate.
To top it all off, the disc scratching issue is back. Seriously Microsoft, what the hell? Did you completely get rid of your QA department?

motherboard problem replaced motherboard gave me a new console now iits scrached up my call of duty 4 modern warfare disk ring marks all round disk and jagged edges on it going repair centre again faulty dvd drive. microsoft is useless. i wish i never brought it now ive had enough of these problems. i should of waited for ps3 wont make same mistake nxt time.im goin back to playstation
i know a cure put a pice of wood with square holes in it on the floor and place your xbox 360 on top the reason the xbox 360 keep over heating is because thares to many holes on it so the air gets trapped and the console over heats and bye bye xbox

I have not posed here for a long time on purpose, because the last time i did i was told by mikey that i was wrong and biased, and some other guy told me that HD was winning the new format war…well….Blah Blah Blah…since my last post plenty more people have come here and spoke about the ills of dealing with MS! And Ps3 has made a huge bounce back, and with the next few quarter line ups will be doing REALLY well. For all of you folks that went with HD…..sorry….but i said it before and i’ll say it again MS does not care about black people..lol…im kidding but for real…they don’t cr as much as they should about the people that spend as much as we do on this type of entertainment. If they did there would be no place for post like this

My first xbox was an elite, I was a little reluctant to buy a next-gen system at first. So I waited, and waited, after hearing about all the horror stories of 360 fans, and seeing all the videos on the RROD’s and other issues, I was glad I waited. Finally the elite was announced, I waited for 2 or 3 months and finally decided this was the 360 I was meant to get.
Well long story short, it lasted almost 8 months.. and now my system is currently back at the repair center and I’m waiting for it. I did not encounter the Red Ring of Death prob, my issue was with the video, was playing a game, started seeing some strange lines migrate across the screen, thought it was a dirty disc issue, went to the dashboard, saw the same lines showing up on there, next thought was it’s the tv, so I shut both off, turned the tv back on, 360 back on, and everything was fine, except for the fact that now there was no video at all, I could hear my 360 in the background loading up and that’s it. Tried everything to fix it, different inputs on the tv, nothing, used the composite, component and hdmi hook ups in different inputs, nothing, tried it on 3 different tv’s and all their inputs.. nothing, bought another hd cable, thinking that was the culprit… nothing. Only the audio remained after each try..
Called up MS support center, spoke to some Indian guy who spoke to me as if I was born yesterday, asked me if I had plugged in the correct colors of the cables into my tv. Before he could go on, I explained everything as I had above, he continued to not listen to what I had just said and asked me if I had tried a different television or a different cable. At this point, I lost it, I told him when I called I got a notification that this call maybe monitored and recorded, why don’t you find the part where I just explained to you what your asking me to do next. I’ve switched the cables, tried multiple inputs on different tvs, have tried switching from hdtv to standard definition on each of them, what do you not understand that I’m telling you? Finally he tells me to send it in, that was about 3 weeks ago now, and I’m still waiting…
I read a number of the comments above, some people are trying to belittle the people who have had problems by stating, I’ve had such and such number of 360’s and I never had a problem and so forth. If you haven’t than your one of the lucky ones, and until it happens to you, you won’t understand the frustration of others, so please shut your mouth. I wish there was an accurate statistic of how many 360’s have been returned for service that we could all go and look at, I would be willing to bet the ratio of defective products would be something like one out of every four sold. It could even possibly be 1 out of 3. It really wouldn’t surprise me. I did a lot of reading before I ever bought my system, the people with defective products sold to them heavily outweigh the people trying to support Microsoft and their inferior product. Glance and read above this comment and you will see what I mean. You could make the argument that there are less people supporting Microsoft on here because they are actually playing their 360 that works right now (for the time being.)
Another thing I never understood was this whole console war issue, PS3 vs 360. Some people will defend their playsations reputation vs the 360’s to their death. As if they held major stock in either product or helped build the dam thing. I just don’t get it, if it works, play the games and try to enjoy them. Gaming after all is supposed to be entertaining and fun, not a debate of who’s or what is better. If your fortunate enough to own both systems and one of them goes defective on you (and most likely we know which one that would be.) It doesn’t necessarily mean the PS3 is better and more entertaining of the two, I myself have played both a lot at friends houses before I bought my 360, and when it comes to playing online, the 360 experience for me was much better. The gaming and graphics on both are equal (and if there is a difference, it’s very subtle), however the online experience on the 360 is much more satisfying, and less prone to experiencing lag on certain games. Problem is, if your like me and you get a defective 360 product you do tend to wonder if buying a PS3 maybe the way to go. After all, last time I checked, there aren’t 100’s of sites and forums dedicated to solving your PS3’s issues, nor are their sites that sell a “PS3X-Clamp Kit” to solve your over-heating issues. But as for a debate on which system is better than the other? PS3 owners can say; “at least it works.” 360 users can say; “well if it’s not broken, it is better, just look at the sales..” LOL. But really? Who cares which is better, if your happy with what you have than that’s all that really should matter to you.
And sorry for the extremely long comment to read… (that’s what happens when I don’t have any games to play at the present moment.) And one more thing, a friend of mine who got a 360 when it first came out recently went out and bought a 360 elite also. Well, I guess i’m the lucky one, because his elite didn’t even last a month. But his old 360 that he bought when it first came out still works, so go figure on that one…
To sum it all up, I’ll quote what I saw another user above write… “The reason why we still don’t hate microsoft and send them evil messages is because we love our 360s…we just wish they worked.”

XBOX 360 SUCKS ASS. I went through 4 of them and no im not a kid that throws them around. Yes I even had the fan to make sure it didnt over heat. first one rings of death after a week. Second one rings of death after a day. Third one Rings of death after 2 months. Fourth one sounds like a motor engine when i put disc in one week later cannot read disc error that system lasted more than a year wow there goes my warrenty. Sony here i come hopefully i dont have as many problems with them as xbox 360. I called microsoft and they said your warrenty is up but you can get it repaired for 90 dollars. Yeah not even worth it.

Sometimes they take awfully long to return your system so it sucks, there’s a lot of 360 sob stories, lol.
Xbox 360 simply is a wast. i bought a original 360 near the release date and it got the ring of death just after 8 months of usage.. I have no grauntee that the elite will be any different.
I think Microsoft is taking all xbox funs for a *%&^$& ride. Waited for some time for them to rectify the elite issues, but i was damn wrong. bought a brand new elite and the bloody console will no power up at all. i dont even get the rings of death… nothing…. as dead a though the bloody console didnt have a processor! all i get is a stupid orange stand-by light on the adapter.. i mean what the hell….. i think we should just boycott microsoft consoles!!! coz i sure aint amuzed!

my elite is dead it got the red lights about 8 wks i sent it of and bought a pro
360 so anyway i got me elite back played it for a day and it stall so i rang them up they said its dirty so i clean it but still stalling and xbox dont want anything to do with me i fight with them but they said if it dont have 3 red lights then there not taking it! so im using the pro now i mod it in and out its still white but looks good but if anybody can help me find out whats up with it . its stalling and there no red lights

had my first 360 few weeks after original release, broke once, got it back, then sold it. then i got the Elite system last November, first of all, no ring of death, only it wouldnt read a single disk, rang MS and i had some indian fella who didnt understand what i was saying, he even tried implying it must have been something i was doing!!!! anyway, they eventually took it away, and sent me back the same console with a new disk drive, that took them nearly 2weeks to get round to doing that, they also conveniently forgot (or just didnt bother) to let me know it was being delivered, so i had to go to UPS depot to get it back, got there and they spent 45mins lookin for it! now the thing is making horrendous noises and has put a nice circular scratch around Fifa 08 a few days before i got 09, now im scared to play 09 incase it does the same.
i know a few people who have had issues with the 360 inc elite consoles, so to those who have not had any problems, seriously, count yourselves lucky. and to the doubters, just ask people you know that have 360 consoles, its not just us who complain that have had issues with them!
My elite started having problems just ater the warranty ran out, so its costing about £60 to send it off for them to fix. My graphics started to bleed ,then one day no picture and sound. The ring of death did nt show up when this happened. Are these common faults?

It seems like you suffered a catastrophic hardware failure as opposed to a heat related issue. Since it was not a RROD issue, its likely they are going to hit you for the repair cost.

Ive had my 360 premium since about a month after its come out and ive sent it in 2x for Red ring of death but rarely have scratching issues with it. But i do know someone who just boght there 360 premium and it scratches daily.
Since my last commemts on the 21st october i have checked my disks and have noticed some lovely big scratches that complete a lovely circle. I am getting my elite back sometime today i hope Xbox repairs have used their brains and have checked to see if theres anything else wrong with it. Wishfull thinking on my part,lol.
There’s a three year warrenty, just send it back and, if you decide to get a new one, that’s your problem.
I HAVE 3 XBOX360’s, NOT WORKING.I HAVE THE HALO3 EDITION AND TWO REGULARS, IM GETTIN THE ELITE XBOX360 TOMORROW. FOR SOME REASON I THINK ITS GONNA WORK FINE OR IS IT ALSO A FAIL?
I bought a 360 elite last xmas (2007). Not knowing anything, I encounter the problem with the disk scratching. Ruined my favorite game and had to drop anoth $59 to get another. Well, as of Sunday 1/4/09, the system is dead. It started with one ring with the e74 error message. I then tried to fix it based on the info found on the web. Now I have the 3 rings of death and the fix doesn’t seem to work like they say. Has anyone fixed an elite with the ring of death? It sucks, I am pretty invested with al the ga,es I have. So it’s a matter of eating the cost of those as well or buy another system.
Ive had an elite with Benq drive for about 14 months now.. the motherboard seems fine but the damn dvd drive crapped out a few months ago, ive mainly been using my xbox for media streaming from my computer so i didnt really test it out further, i thought it was just my old xbox games not working properly since i play them more then anything new. However just got a brand new game still didnt work, same with any other games or dvds i slide in. I hate microsoft cause they want me to pay them for fixing their shit i bought from them, it was expensive enough as it was I shouldnt have to pay them a 1/3 of the cost of a brand new system just for something simple that they could easily fix in an assembly anymore. Does anyone know any good sites? Ive been looking through youtube most tuts are for different drives and xbox styles, Im not exactly sure if the Benq is supposed to have an individual magnet in the middle or not but theres nothing but an empty slot and i couldnt find any magnet anywhere in the drive. dvd drive sounds fucked
on my second elite[ 2 light rrod original console and 3 light rrod in 95 days on the replacement]in just over a year ….they suck just like the others. customer service said everyones box is breaking and my podunk town of 24000 has “at least one box a day” shipping from the ups store according to the counter babe.
I had my original Xbox 360 since 2006. I had no problems until yesterday when it finally broke. I’m getting a elite tomorrow and will also buy another fan for it, I guess 1 wasn’t enough. I really hope I don’t have problems with my new one.
