KillZone Unit had a nice Q&A session with David Karraker, the PR wizard at Sony Computer Entertainment America.
Most notable about the session was Karraker saying that Sony is “currently in discussions with Immersion on how we can incorporate their technologies into our products” (read: rumble in SIXAXIS).
This is terrific news for PS3 users who want rumble with their next-gen gaming. Hopefully we’ll see this before the end of the year, with all PS3 games supporting rumble.
Some other interested tidbits:
- Sony is working on customized backgrounds for the XMB, similar to the PS2
- There will be many more third-party demos and downloadable titles coming
- “No comment” on upscaling of PS1/PS2 games and DVDs, meaning it’s probably being worked on. Same goes for accessing the RSX inside Linux.
- Expect to see more PSP integration with PS3 games.
I have been ok without rumble on the PS3 so far. And if they incorporate it, will they offer free replacement controllers to us? I doubt it.
Rumble on the 360 can be a nuisance, it sometimes rumbles for no reason.

I honestly don’t miss the rumble that much either. The one time I really did miss it was MLB 2K7. Not having rumble to let you know you’re aiming a pitch out of the strike zone felt wrong to me.
