Halo 2 Map Pack Issues with Xbox 360

Halo 2 Map - Desolation Image

My good friend Chiwotweiler sent word that there’s some major issues with the new Halo 2 maps when you try to buy them on your Xbox 360.

Numerous reports from both the Xbox forums (here and here, as well as countless other threads)and Bungie’s forums (here, here and here, as well as many other threads) show users getting multiple error messages when trying to buy the maps. Many users see “Purchase failed. You will not be charged for this transaction. Please try again later.” This is happening even with a credit card associated with the Gold account. Another error users are seeing is “Installation of content failed”.

There’s also many reports of big glitches in the new maps, such as multiple invisible walls in Tombstone.

Did Bungie test these maps thoroughly on the Xbox 360? Sure, play-testing is one thing, but making sure users can actually buy your premium content is another thing.

Microsoft said they were aware of a problem and were working on resolving it, but there’s been no formal announcement or acknowledgement.

Pictures of one of the errors after the jump…

um yea this didn’t happen to me so you guys must be n00bs. honestly, if you have a credit card linked and your account is Gold, then there should be no problems. please sell your 360s and get ps3 instead, God knows Sony needs to sell more systems.

@jamie: Definitely not n00bs here. These are people who are well versed in video gaming and Xbox. Microsoft has even said in numerous calls to Xbox Support that there is an issue here and they are working to resolve it. Just because you were one of the lucky ones who didn’t have any issues doesn’t mean everyone who has issues is stupid.

any news on how to resolve this? I’ve called support and 4 times was told the support call could not be answered at this time? What a waste! so much for the all-night Halo 2 I was planning on…

The purchase $4 was charged, but no ability to download. I’ll post when I get any more info…

Still no news yet on a fix for this issue. I’ve contacted Microsoft, and I all hear is that they are working on it.

@spoo: I would be throwing a fit if I got charged for the content and can’t download it.

Yeah, no joke. Couple that with being on hold for an hour.
They told me go to the system, memory, harddrive tab and under games, Halo 2. Delete any incomplete download (mine showed 16kbyte).
Then they had me clear the cache: access ‘memory’ in the system blade, and then highlight the hard drive. Now press: Y, X, X, LB, RB, X, X.
I went back into Halo2, got the update, and the problem still is there.

MS is starting to live up to its reputation. It was only a matter of time until the Xbox side of the house started releasing s/w without testing. Perhaps it runs Vista?

@spoo: Yeah I don’t think the problem has anything to do with the 360 at all. I think it has to do with how the Live accounts work on the 360 with BC titles. Who knows if they’ll fix it soon :(
    I would demand a refund.

I think it’s time to file a class action lawsuit against Microsoft over this, who’s with me?!

This happened to me, but i fixed it. Just delete your old maps and then re-download and install them. After you do this it should be able to download the new maps and install them. That’s what I did.

Yeah, I have been having the same problem. I get either one of the two failed warnings. It’s definetly having to do with the Xbox live accounts, because I heard a friend made a different account besides his main one, and got to download the maps that instant. If you guys hear of how to fix this problem also, tell me.
    Thanks

Same with me Jake. On my main account, which I can use for my 360 and original xbox, I can’t download the maps because of “technical problems” every time I try submitting my last four digits to my credit card or even trying to open up the credit card info >:(.
But for some reason, on my other account, which is only used for the original xbox, can download the maps, and no “technical problems” come about…

The following website helped me with my “purchase failed” error. It allowed me to finally download the $4 map-pack content, and play in all the game sectors.

If you realy want to fix this problem what you need to to is reformat your Xbox 360 and download ALL the maps again it worked for me! So give that a shot!

@Stuey - formatting the hard drive in the Xbox 360 loses a lot of things you can’t get back, such as Hexic. This isn’t an option for a lot of people. Bungie has stated that the issue has been fixed and everyone should now to be able to get the maps with no problems.

Just go to content, go to things you’ve downloaded, delete the partly downloaded maps and do it again, worked for me..

I am still having the same “Installtion of Content Failed” message for the map packs. Interesting though I was able to download the Blastacular pack, the one that costs $4, after giving up one day and then trying again 3 days later. The other ones that claim they are free are still having issues downloading. I have tried deleting the incomplete ones and retrying, I have tried reselecting my credit card, and then preforming maintinence on my xbox 360 a few times. I still cannot download the last 3!! What to do?
