While Microsoft is launching it’s Elite Xbox 360, and Sony is killing off it’s 20GB PS3, there’s been some FCC filings in the Sony camp. Not content with just having 1 model of the PS3, Sony has filed for approval and is thinking of selling an 80GB model.
Why this is necessary, I have no idea. I think $600 is already pushing the pricing limit. Unless Sony plans to drop the price of the 60GB model and introduce the 80GB model at $600, I can’t this as a good move for them.
GamesIndustry.biz confirmed, through a Sony Computer Entertainment spokesperson, that the company is indeed “considering” the release of the 80GB console. I’m sure if they’re going to announce it, we’ll be hearing about it in the coming weeks.
I think this one-up’ing between Sony and Microsoft has to stop. It’s not good for the consumer anymore.
