It’s been a pretty busy weekend for the UFC. Between another Ultimate Fight Night and the premire of the new season of The Ultimate Fighter on Thursday and UFC69 on Saturday there has been no shortage of action.
Kendall Grove def. Alan Belcher by choke-out
First round went back and forth a bit but Grove clearly got the upper hand, getting Belcher in a clinch and kneeing the shit out of him a few times. In the second round, Grove just dominated, getting him down and choking him out (not a tap out…Belcher went to sleep). Best part of the fight though was Tito making it from the crowd to standing behind the scoring table yelling instructions to Kendall. Good stuff. He’s fighting Dana White soon which should be interesting.
Winner by Choke Out (not sure if that’s how its officially listed) – Kendall Grove
Yushin Okami def. Mike Swick
Back and forth fight, with Okami winning the first and third rounds in my book. The weirdest part of the fight was in the third round Okami had Swick down and mounted and was punching him in the face repeatedly for a good 30 seconds or so but he’s hitting him so lightly it wasn’t doing anything. Okami had every opportunity to get a TKO when he had him on the ground, and at one point Swick even gave up his back but Okami couldn’t capitalize, instead settling for a decision victory.
Winner by Unanimous Decision – Yushin Okami
And now…Xyience presents the “Oh Joe…” Joe Rogan moment of the night
After his victory, Joe asks Okami a question
Translator translates
Okami: Unintelligible
Translator: I didn’t hear what you said, take your mouthpiece out
Joe: Well, if you don’t understand, we’re all doomed
Oh Joe…
Roger Huerta def. “Smiling” Leonard Garcia by decision
That’s not really his nickname, but the man did catch a 15 minute beating with a smile on his face the whole time. This was actually a pretty good fight…there was no real technique or style, just the both of them throwing haymakers and trying takedowns and submissions for three straight rounds. After the fight I think they may have made out…not 100% on this.
Winner by Unanimous Decision – Roger Huerta
Josh Koscheck def. Diego Sanchez
Boooooooorrrrrrriiiiinnnnggggggg………….
This fight sucked. Koscheck comes out to “This is why I’m hot.” Diego comes into mariachi music (wtf). Guess which one I’m rooting for. First round was terrible, they spent the entire round sizing each other up with Koscheck getting a couple of good shots in, followed by him wining the round at the end with a quick takedown. The other two rounds were pretty much the same…lots of circling each other, a takedown attempt here and there and no real combos or commitment to any moves. In the end, Sanchez got his first lost by unanimous decision and Koscheck was a dick after the match taunting Sanchez (I’m never one to frown on dickishness).
Winner by Unanimous Decision – Josh Koscheck
Matt Serra def. Georges St-Pierre
Everybody thought that this would be a sure thing that St-Pierre would wreck Serra, the Ultimate Fighter 4 winner. I even contemplated putting money on this fight till I realized that I don’t know how to read lines…oh and also betting is illegal.
A couple minutes into the first round, Serra threw a right hook that grazed the back of St-Pierre’s head which made him lose his balance, as he got back up, he slipped again and the second time he got up, Serra clocked him, got him down on the mat and just kept pounding on him until the ref stopped the fight.
Winner by TKO and new Welterweight Champion – Matt Serra, fairly squarely
The next major event, UFC70 will be on April 21 and will be free on Spike. Nice.

You forgot the best match of the night after the GSp fight. The guy got knocked out so bad he was fighting the ref and actually tried to tackle him. LOL
FYI – Matt Serra as champ sux a nut!
