So today I sat down and spent a good bit of time with the PS3 version of MLB2K7. I’ve put in about 50+ hours with the 360 version, so I had a good basis for comparison.
For starters, the 360 version looks better. The PS3 seems to have more jaggies and a bit more framerate issues. That being said, it doesn’t look bad. It’s just not as polished.
The hitting is completely different in the PS3. By default, you use the SIXAXIS motion controls to bat. You pull the controller back and push it forward, similar to using the right analog stick as the swing stick. It felt a bit off at first, but I got used to it. It makes hitting a bit less realistic. I was hitting home run after home run after home run. It’s hard to differentiate between a contact and power swing when you’re pushing the controller forward. I think they need to patch this, if possible. The swing stick is much more realistic.
The only other bit of contention I have with the game is pitching. It’s less to do with the game, than to do with the PS3. The lack of rumble makes pitching a lot harder. With the 360, the controller rumbles when you’re throwing out of the strike zone. You don’t have that with the PS3, so you have to make a judgement call if you’re pitch is going to be on the corner or not. You could argue that it adds more realism, and I agree. I just think rumble is needed.
Overall, I’m happy I own the 360 version. I’m guessing all of next year’s sports titles will be essentially equal on both systems, and it’ll be a toss up for which to buy.
