Yet another reason to add to the growing list why Gamestop is NOT the place to buy anything from. I went into today to pick up MLB 2K7 for Xbox 360, mainly because Best Buy’s shipment was delayed. For the record, I avoid Gamestop at all costs and will shop elsewhere whenever I can. However, I wanted to play MLB 2K7, and this was my only chance to buy it. So…
I walk up the counter, ask for the game. I’m quickly asked “Did you preorder it?”, so which my textbook answer is “No.” The guy turned around grabbed a copy of the game, and before ringing it up, proceeded to lecture me. “You really need to start preordering these games.” Ummm, what? My response: “Why, you’re gonna refuse to sell it to me?”. His shocking answer: “Yeah, starting next week, we’re not selling games to anyone but preorders for the first 2 days of release.” You gotta be fucking kidding me. I reluctantly bought the game as I laughed in the kid’s face (he didn’t take to well to that, but what do I care, really).
I can only hope that either this kid is mildly mentally handicapped or it’s just this store that’s being ridiculously insane. Even if this isn’t a corporate policy, it’s a damn shame that I had to hear this first hand. For shame, Gamestop. For shame.
The moral of the story for anyone keeping score is, NEVER SHOP AT GAMESTOP!

Word.
The moral of the story is to pirate games. You get them at least a week early on average, and you don’t have to pay.
I hate gamestop because i’ve wanted a Nintendo Wii for a while now and every time I walk in there, they have Wii boxes laying all over the place with pricetags on them, but then they laugh at me when i ask at the counter if they have any… What a poorly run shop.
I’m an employee of Gamestop, and I would guarantee you it’s not the people working there who are stupid, it’s the company. They started this new “ranking” system, where they rank us by district and region, based on reserves. They rank us individually. It’s the most annoying, ridiculous thing they could do. So, this is why our employees may pressure you into reserves or subscriptions. Because we secretly have to meet a stupid quota, or our DM bitches at us.
I’m currently an employee of Gamestop. There is a much better outlet for venting your frustrations about the pressure in our stores (Yes we are forced to do this. My DM makes me write up any employee who gets less than 1 reservation for every 10 transactions). The most important thing in this company to DM’s and above are how your store ranks within in your region. This year they have added a category called ‘customer experience.’ It’s basically taken off the feedback website that is printed on the receipts. It asks if you would recommend the store to someone. Answer no to this question (they don’t read comments unless you sasy no); then tell them it is due to the excess pressure on reserves. This will have a big effect on that store’s ranking. Not many of these are filled out; so one negative response hurts a lot. Hopefully if enough people fill these out someone will listen.

And none of that moment goes to the devs.

Right. So, explain to me how this supports the developers at all? People like you are the reason good dev’s go outta business.
