Age of Empires : The Age of Kings - Nintendo DS - Review

This is a nice adaptation of the classic RTS Age of Empires for the DS, except it has been changed to a turn based game. The turn based action gives it a nice feel on the hand held and allows for some nice strategy to take place. AOE: The Age of Kings gives you the great feel of the RTS in a small compact package, you can still build units and cities and “Age up”, while taking your people through different eras in time. The game is much like Advanced Wars or Final Fantasy Tactics for the GBA, but gives you the flexibility to have control of both screens on the DS. Game play is simple to get a hang of but challenging to master, a nice feature is the ability to save and quit at any time during a game, which is a must for any portable game - nothing is more frustrating than searching for a save spot with a stewardess asking you to turn your DS off. The graphics leave a bit to be desired, but the game really is more heavily rooted in its strategy aspect. It is definitely a decent buy for under $20 almost anywhere you go and you can get in a small war on the fly.

Overall Rating : 8.5 out of 10
