So Gamedaily BIZ is reporting that Sony has retracted their statement that they are going to fix the HD Scaling issues of the PS3. This is some major league bullshit here. From the article:
Sony has contacted us to let us know that they may have spoken a bit prematurely. SCEA’s Dave Karraker, Sr. Director, Corporate Communications, informed GameDaily BIZ that they currently cannot confirm that this 1080i issue will be resolved via a firmware patch. The official line is now that they are “looking into the issue and haven’t stated any actions that will be taken regarding it.”
The fact that the PS3 can’t scale up or down in Blu-Ray movies, DVDs, and Games disturbs me. You either get native resolution or 480p. This is pointing to one thing: the PS3, in it’s current form, has no hardware scaler. If a firmware fix won’t work, it’s because the hardware isn’t there. Which, again, is fucking bullshit. How can you say the next generation starts when Sony says, but fuck over tons of HDTV owners. This is pretty close to false advertising here, Sony. You say you can play your games and watch Blu-Ray movies in HD, but it looks like it’s only if you have a nice new 1080p HDTV. I’m not about to spend a shitload on a new TV because Sony wants to be dumb and fuck over their consumers.
This better get fixed.

Melio: you are correct sir. That’s exactly what this is… stupid. How could they release a console that can’t scale to different HD resolutions? It’s as if they only tested the PS3 with 1080p Sony Bravia HDTV’s.
Couldn’t all that have been said with perhaps the slightest less swearing?
Spent close to $1000 on PS3 and games for me and my son because I had an HD tv that supports 720P and 1080I and expected the next generation of High Res Gamming that Sony promised. Then spent 3 christmas days getting more and more frustrated as I tried to figure out what I was doing wrong because the resolution was no better than a crappy old crt tv that my son played the original xbox on. I got angry, I got mad, this is christmas, we are all supposed to be happy, my wife and kids cowered in the corner, then I finally do a search -PS3 HD poblems - and all becomes clear - except the resolution on my Call of Duty 3 and Resistance fall of man- or should I say the fall of Sony. They knew it, their goddamn pamplet says it can do 1080i- lies. Never a sony again. Hey can I take this piece of shit back? Will Sony reimburse my christmas - will it wipe the tears of my son? Thanks Sony. Merry Christmas, or do the Japenese even celebrate the day, I guess they do if they hit their sales targets. Bastards
