guess Ineed to throw in my two cents. Honestly.. Sony is a company showing how well they build on lies and false advertising. IHave a ps3 and an xbox 360. Definately when it comes to gaming, prefer, the 360. Just seems to look better on my 720p TV! OMG! I ONLY HAVE 720! you people are lame sometimes out there on the net. and yes blu ray doesn't look as great as it could, but it does still look a step above. maybe if you spaced yourselves away from the tv appropriately, some of the graininess would go away (not all, but it certainly looks better at a distance than close up). Sony mad a crap decision for a crap system this time around. and honestly If it wasn't for the fact I love MGS 4 and am looking forward to a few other exclusives, I would already be selling this replicated foreman grill with spiderman font on top. PS3 is garbage.

Man you have a lot of money :). Also, the resolution is 1920x1080. An easy way to remember the 1080 is that its called 1080P.

My laptop screen is 17" and has a 1920x1200 screen :)

@Fragloser

man i bought the 80gb ps3, and i bought 5 games when i bought it.
then i went and bought my full hd tv the next day.
then the following week i bought 2 more games and another controller.
then when ut3 came out i bought that.
ut3 upscales to 1080p and also downscales to 480i.
it covers all the resolutions.
and blue ray is native 1080p which is a resolution of 1980x1224 or something like that i don't know right off hand.

and the 360 was better at launch because it was the only system out.

@drunk pandas

well drunk man i did not go off on people that don't own a 1080p tv because they don't own one.
that would be stupid now wouldn't it?
i was saying if you want to experience the full hd experience on the ps3 then you have to buy a 1080p tv.

and sony did not fix this issue because if i downscale a blue ray movie with my 80gb ps3 to 720p it is all crappy looking and fuzzy.
that is because it is ment for 1080p only.

now i know there are not many games in 1080p for the ps3 and there will never be many games in 1080p because people believe that 41080p looks like crap and it has blur and everything else on it.
but that is a lie it has non of those things it is the clearest picture known.
plus the ones who say that have dlp tv's and plasma tv's.
those tv's are known to have the blur effect on them.
the new dlp tv's are better with the new technology they have emitted in them.
and games in 720p can upscale to 1080i/p but only some of them. like i have cod4 it is native 720p but it actually only is in 600p. and i can upscale it to 1080p with no problems it is clearer and more detailed.
no frame rate issues like people think either.
and here is another example i have ncaa 08 football, it is native 720p.
i cannot upscale this game to anything higher because ea sucks and will not allow it even though it would make the game look and play better then it does.

so you see i know what is going on with the ps3 and the games and tv's aswell.
so i think you mistook my words for slander and twisted them all around just like fragloser did.

thanks for your information though.

Heh. I just saw the post on my email because I'm too lazy to get rid of my subscriptions lol.

I didn't know that Sony fixed the blue ray scaling issue, thats sweet. Also, I think I may buy a PS3 soon and sell my 360 if PS3 starts getting really really good FPS and 360 is left out of it. :)

As of now, I still love COD4, Mass Effect, Bioshock, etc. I'm also eager to play Lost Odyssey

Wow, flame wars in an article that's 1.5 years old.

Let me break it down here. Prior to mid 2006, you couldn't get a native 1080p HDTV. Meaning the few sets on the market that were 1080p didn't accept native 1080p input. Once full 1080p sets hit the market, they were fairly expensive for a while. So, anyone who bought an HDTV prior to mid/late 2006 got a 720p set. That resolution is still and will continue to be the sweet spot for HD content in games and broadcast.

If you notice, not many PS3 or Xbox 360 games support full 1080p natively. Many are upscaled in software or hardware by both systems. Just because it says 1080p on the box doesn't mean the game runs natively at 1080p.

If you aren't aware, Sony "fixed" BluRay movie scaling via a firmware update, basically by rearranging the priority of resolutions to move 720p above 1080i. The system properly displays the BluRay movies at 720p now. Games are a different story, as the PS3 does not include an internal scaler and can only display at resolutions supported by the game code.

Now, going off on people for not owning a 1080p set is plain stupid. Not everyone is willing to spend $1500 on a new HDTV, especially when they purchased one recently. And when that TV is perfectly supported by everything else on the market, the PS3 should be no different. So your argument of needing a special HDTV is not valid.

Feel free to discuss, but I'm sure I have a valid way to refute fanboy banter :)

No I'm not an MS Fanboy. If I had the chance to own a PS3, I most certainly would for Resitance / UT3 / FFXIII and the rumored Crysis. I just bought a 360 because it was better at launch in terms of games for me.

What you posted is silly by the way. If you get the 80GB PS3 bundle and buy 3 games an an extra controller, it will end up costing you more than the 120GB Xbox 360. I'm not flaming by the way. You saying that you flame just makes you look silly.

120GB Eliite with (2 games that come with it another game a controller = the bundle you posted). 80GB PS3 with (1 game that comes with it 2 more games a controller = more than the 120GB elite). I'm talking from a person that wants to buy a console for games, not anything else.

20GB Xbox 360 (comes with 2 games 1 controller = $349)
40GB PS3 (comes with 1 game 1 controller = $399)

I would gladly own a PS3 if I had the money, I just think your arguments are very flawed.

At the time, 720P was a good priced TV for me to own. I don't care if blue ray is 1920x1200, it should be able to scale to 720P like a lot of PS3 games do, and my computer does the same.

Go ahead and flame all you want, I'm just posting a coherent arguement. When I was over at my friends house btw I played UT3 and it was pretty sweet.

@Fragloser
so i get that the 360 is stupid then and it makes no sense according to what you said. but yet your a ms fanboy.
i don't see how what i posted is stupid it is a 360 with 2 games hense a gaming console.

that is the beauty of posting on sites like this man i can say what i want about the 360 and you can do anything about it just wine.

oh yeah you can keep your 360 because the ps3 is better.
and always will be.
by the way did you hear ms is putting blue ray inside of the 360?
it is going to happen sometime this year or at the beginning of next year.

and i believe i made perfect sense and said nothing stupid.
you are the one that can't find the right words so you have to call me stupid.

and now for the tv situation never dais you had to buy a tv with a ps3 i said you can use it with a sd tv.
or you can go buy an hdtv so don't change my words around dumb ass.
i think you can't think of anything to say so you have to switch around what i say and make me look like the bad person for your personal gain.
and you must not think i keep any eye on this site, oh but i do and i suggest you stop try to flame me and for god sakes quit making yourself look stupid will you.
i can flame better then anyone you know so don't get me started.

I believe 2 years ago I spent around $700-800 on a 42" DLP TV. It has HDMI and all of that, and it works fine.

Also: You have to remember that not everyone owns a 1080P TV. I have a lot of friends that have a PS3 that don't have a 1080P TV. Just because you have the money for the console doesn't mean you have the money for the 1080P TV to match it.

I think PS3's are great actually (with the recent addition of UT3), but I do like my 360 more. I just don't like it when Sony fanboys like you come and bash the 360 with arguments that don't even make sense. I said that you pay less for a 360 if you want a gaming console.

That bundle you posted is so stupid. Do you seriously think you can fool any of us with an argument that dumb. The premium Xbox 360 is $350, which is great for a lot of people. That is cheaper than the PS3 if I am not mistaken.

PS3 is great, but xbox is definitely cheaper. You paid $499 for your PS3 with 1 game an 1 controller. I paid $349 for my 360 with 2 games and 1 controller.

I am wrong in the fact that I said that you hated us, but still, there is nothing wrong with a 720P TV, it looks fine and some early adopters didn't have the money for a 1080P at the time, but would still like to watch Blue Ray movies in as high quality as possible.

I believe 2 years ago I spent around $700-800 on a 42″ DLP TV. It has HDMI and all of that, and it works fine.

Also: You have to remember that not everyone owns a 1080P TV. I have a lot of friends that have a PS3 that don’t have a 1080P TV. Just because you have the money for the console doesn’t mean you have the money for the 1080P TV to match it.

I think PS3’s are great actually (with the recent addition of UT3), but I do like my 360 more. I just don’t like it when Sony fanboys like you come and bash the 360 with arguments that don’t even make sense.
